{"id":85915,"date":"2026-08-15T08:00:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T12:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=85915"},"modified":"2026-08-15T07:43:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T11:43:46","slug":"nw-forest-fire-region-update-august-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/15\/nw-forest-fire-region-update-august-14\/","title":{"rendered":"NW Forest Fire Region Update &#8211; August 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated: August 14,\u00a02026\u00a0at 6:00\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (<abbr>CDT<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>There were 2 new wildland fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the evening of August 14.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e3e1fa8cf47345f3efcf1f20834e2017c\"><strong>Nipigon 99 (NIP099)<\/strong> is located east of Pays Plat, approximately 3 kilometers northeast of Highway 17 and 5.5 kilometers north of Rossport. This 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e4017538f85adff8ff903c88153cf720f\"><strong>Nipigon 100 (NIP100)<\/strong> is located approximately 10.5 kilometers north of Highway 17 in Pays Plat and 2 kilometers northeast of West Fox Lake. This 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the time of this update there are 87 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of those fires, 10 are not under control, 6 are being held, 8 are under control 63 are being observed.<\/p>\n<p>To access the current forest fire danger rating in your area visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca\/ForestFireInformationMap\/index.html?viewer=FFIM.FFIM\">interactive fire map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"fires-note\">Fires of note<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Rinker Lake Complex &#8211; Thunder Bay 36 (THU036), Dryden 34 (DRY034), Dryden 35 (DRY035)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e40885c573ac115483c55aa6a2e524e38\">FireRanger crews continue suppression efforts of hotspot areas identified by infrared scanning, to establish consolidated hoselines and pumps along the perimeter of the fire. Crews are also continuing with installing and maintaining values protection equipment and constructing helipads to allow for mobilization of equipment to gain access to priority areas of the fire.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e6d21963af26ac68e6712706d3cb635c5\">Fire activity across the Rinker Lake wildland Fire Complex remains low, although dry and gusty weather conditions yesterday resulted in some increased fire behaviour late in the day<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ec1436e931d649129330b5ed1493b8479\">Heavy equipment crews have made steady progress on DRY035, allowing FireRanger crews to tie into the dozer line where they meet.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ec31d73d3f4bc9b7ffd0401f0c01ffa76\"><strong>THU036<\/strong> is currently measuring 301,240 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ee828521e4c4939a92c48cf2221611483\"><strong>DRY034<\/strong> is currently measuring 45,800 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e25414e9a869e9d82cff59c54450d3609\"><strong>DRY035<\/strong> was remapped today and now measures 30,201 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Atikokan Cluster &#8211; Fort Frances 13 (FOR013), Fort Frances 14 (FOR014), Fort Frances 15 (FOR015)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e3a8448270848af410b4bfbdad8111b0b\">The Implementation Order restricting road and lake access in the FOR014 fire area was lifted on Wednesday, August 12, at 9 a.m. Use of roads and lakes in this area is available.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ea36c1ba80932b811b336f6e73834a6f7\">Firefighting crews are continuing to utilize hand tools to extinguish deep burning hotspots identified by infrared scanning and supported by bucketing helicopters. Additional crews are assigned to retrieving and demobilising wildland fire suppression equipment from the fire line. Twenty firefighters from Mexico are returning to the fire line today, and additional Mexican crews will join the incident tomorrow to replace Ontario FireRanger crews.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"efb3c0d8ebaecaabc0845efe371979f06\">Today saw in increase in smoke compared to previous days due to sunny skies and low relative humidity in addition to smoke haze from active fires in the Pacific coast of Canada and the United States.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e5939ebbc54c8ba2522ebdc8611bb6aa0\"><strong>FOR013<\/strong> is currently measuring 25,279 hectares and is now listed as being observed.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e4d118446115c0ed5f56759d43a15af10\"><strong>FOR014<\/strong> is currently measuring 51,768 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e662867149b6e6406faca59db4bd4fa0f\"><strong>FOR015<\/strong> is currently measuring 42,273 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Updated: August 14,\u00a02026\u00a0at 6:00\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (CDT).
