{"id":85645,"date":"2026-08-07T08:00:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T12:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=85645"},"modified":"2026-08-07T08:15:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T12:15:23","slug":"nw-forest-fire-region-update-august-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/07\/nw-forest-fire-region-update-august-6\/","title":{"rendered":"NW Forest Fire Region Update &#8211; August 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated: August 6,\u00a02026\u00a0at 6:00\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (<abbr>CDT<\/abbr>)<\/p>\n<p>There were 4\u00a0new wildland fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the evening of August 6.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e184401e689cd8d70207264a5111589be\"><strong>Thunder Bay 76 (THU076) <\/strong>is located approximately 13 kilometres west of Highway 527, north of Dog Lake. The 0.2-hectare fire is being held.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e36e35349ab5436a08d2af799e00f55bc\"><strong>Thunder Bay 77 (THU077) <\/strong>is located approximately 5 kilometres east of Lookout Road, near the west side of Aldridge Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e57ad71a90d3f7503e4d557253ce89278\"><strong>Fort Frances 61 (FOR061) <\/strong>was located approximately 4.3 kilometres west of the western perimeter of Fort Frances 14, west of Byers Lake. The fire was called out at 0.1-hectares.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ebe699f009ca108393631e442a95489da\"><strong>Nipigon 96 (NIP096) <\/strong>is located in Rainbow Falls Provincial Park, near Whitesand Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the time of this update there are 113 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of those fires, 17 are not under control, 10 are being held, 2 are under control 84 are being observed.<\/p>\n<h3>Fires of note<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Screenshot-2026-08-07-at-08.14.21.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-85655\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Screenshot-2026-08-07-at-08.14.21-600x339.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Screenshot-2026-08-07-at-08.14.21-600x339.png 600w, https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Screenshot-2026-08-07-at-08.14.21-300x170.png 300w, https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Screenshot-2026-08-07-at-08.14.21-768x434.png 768w, https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Screenshot-2026-08-07-at-08.14.21.png 824w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Rinker Lake Complex &#8211; Thunder Bay 36 (THU036), Dryden 34 (DRY034), Dryden 35 (DRY035)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e876dd9e301052ef7356f1868be276888\">There are 15 wildland firefighting crews from Ontario and Alberta, two 20-person crews of wildland firefighters from Mexico, heavy equipment operators, 17 helicopters, pilots, overhead staff from Ontario and Qu\u00e9bec, and an Incident Management team assigned to the Rinker Lake Complex.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e499f52e0cf312f1af17ad75c7f44a07b\">There are an additional 20 wildland firefighters from Nova Scotia and 2 Ontario FireRangers crews arriving at the Rinker Lake Complex today.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e8a088e2c193c92a513eea32f0d1d06c0\">Infrared scanning was conducted on THU036 today. Thermal imaging allows operations to focus their efforts on identified targets in active sections of the fire.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e3572218803d35d0d1d30af9176d63683\">Firefighting crews are patrolling for and extinguishing hotspots, consolidating hoselines, installing and maintaining values protection equipment and constructing helipads to allow for mobilization of equipment and gain access to more fire area.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ecd24df488f08e4a5af7060dceca17fe2\">Heavy equipment operators are continuing to construct fire guards on portions of the THU036 and DRY035 perimeters. Additional heavy equipment has been added to operations on DRY035.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e9e5f1987432b93447f1aeb07fc209ea6\">Bucketing helicopter operations are ongoing where required.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e001bfdb0f81a312750050a5c1f9cbc0f\"><strong>THU036<\/strong> is currently measuring 301,240 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ed54f0cbfe8a535f4051d5b4870ec4e81\"><strong>DRY034<\/strong> is currently measuring 45,800\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e2763935013cc34787b3c63090374dcb4\"><strong>DRY035 <\/strong>is currently measuring 31,510 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Atikokan Cluster &#8211; Fort Frances 13 (FOR013), Fort Frances 14 (FOR014), Fort Frances 15 (FOR015)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e5af2d5beddc605e41b85f784938b6dab\">Firefighting crews and staff from Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Alberta and Mexico are making excellent progress in fire operations, consolidating hose lines and extinguishing hotspots with the aid of bucketing helicopters.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ecd11bea485dc806b4492905fdf0bc9e0\">All three fires in the complex continue to exhibit low behaviour and minimal growth.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e11a264c20532d51aefed8b84d61e52b7\">On the north end of FOR014 where water sources are scarce, FireRanger crews are patrolling the perimeter and using helicopter buckets to extinguish hot spots-working up to approximately 100 feet inward from the perimeter.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e66b5b0a68d681127548d65a6548fafab\">Crews are patrolling the north and northeast side of FOR015 for hot spots utilizing bucketing support from the helicopters in often challenging terrain.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e19f680752200fa1fe753ef87d447ee9a\">A wildland fire fighting engine with a 4,000 litre tank capacity is now working in the Cushing Lake area.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e4a769d4ee9c94b13154e649f36143c92\"><strong>FOR013 <\/strong>is currently measuring 25,279\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e12b285072df92439d056dd09135894d6\"><strong>FOR014 <\/strong>is currently measuring 51,768\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e9ee3279ce44ba79fcd6f631f7526c008\"><strong>FOR015 <\/strong>is currently measuring 42,273\u00a0hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Updated: August 6,\u00a02026\u00a0at 6:00\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (CDT) There were 4\u00a0new wildland fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the evening of August 6.
