{"id":85309,"date":"2026-07-25T08:00:42","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T12:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=85309"},"modified":"2026-07-25T08:00:45","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T12:00:45","slug":"northwest-forest-fire-update-july-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/25\/northwest-forest-fire-update-july-24\/","title":{"rendered":"Northwest Forest Fire Update &#8211; July 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated: July\u00a024,\u00a02026\u00a0at 7:15\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (<abbr>CDT<\/abbr>)<\/p>\n<p>There were 2 new wildland fire confirmed in the Northwest Region by the evening of July 24.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e629de0360609ec9fb82765e9ec08684f\"><strong>Nipigon 83 (NIP083) <\/strong>is located near the southwest side of Sim Lake, approximately 23 kilometres northwest of Kagianagami Lake. The 5.0-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e1bcaedca4d822385afa9a39856504c50\"><strong>Nipigon 84 (NIP084)<\/strong> near the shoreline of Lake Nipigon, approximately 11.5 kilometres west of Beardmore. The 0.2-hectare fire is not under control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the time of this update there are 133 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of those fires, 30 are not under control, 5 are being held, 6 are under control 92 are being observed.<\/p>\n<p>To access the current forest fire danger rating in your area visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca\/ForestFireInformationMap\/index.html?viewer=FFIM.FFIM\">interactive fire map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Fires of note<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Thunder Bay 36 (THU036)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ea9e8fe7c7b14e802625938b42232075e\">The fire was more accurately remapped to 315,431 hectares on July 22 through perimeter mapping flights and ground truthing efforts.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ee7db17ba6d4aaeef36423ba7650a5618\">Fire crews are continuing to locate and extinguish hot spots along the fire perimeter, with helicopter bucketing operations providing support.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e595e06c8d33f7333f660fccba0939e4e\">Heavy equipment operators are making good progress constructing fire guards.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ee1caf5a405f834a0f08b495d8b509954\">Values protection efforts are ongoing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Atikokan Cluster &#8211; Fort Frances 14 (FOR014), Fort Frances 15 (FOR015), Fort Frances 38 (FOR038)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"eaa319178824526702eb18d36f82a1505\">FOR014 is currently measuring 51,806 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e5164c8eb6248c248be0872186a6ae162\">FOR015 is currently measuring 42,279 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e78e205094209e75bfb39f541dd4d5312\">Additional firefighting crews from Alberta and Ontario have been assigned to both FOR014 and FOR015.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ef5d3c55e9541c505b6d9e9c4fdc11c92\">Crews continue to establish hose lines and patrol for fire activity, supported by bucketing helicopters.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e7fb034b0187e46298788d1debb82aa1f\">Infrared scanning flights have begun to help identify hotspots for crews to target.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e561e08af63fd51fa62572e45b4b3ac9f\">FOR038, north of Crystal Lake, is under control at 44.2 hectares in size.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sioux Lookout 72 \u2013 Cat Lake First Nation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e53e2cd0cc1a60d28a721c67c324f9478\">Sioux Lookout 72 was among the fires that exhibited significant growth on July 13 and 14.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e571462e83c8b328aa8a7677a00683abc\">The fire is currently measuring 23,597 hectares and is not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e817fb47fecdbd99f1d6f3b325c8d0753\">Fire Ranger crews are making good progress on suppression efforts supported by bucketing helicopters targeting hotspots.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e72fec6f0755def738eae1a490faacb78\">Hydro One has replaced burnt poles along the Cat Lake hydro line and power has been restored.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Brightsand Cluster &#8211; Dryden 34 (DRY034), Dryden 35 (DRY035), Thunder Bay 54 (THU054), and Thunder Bay 56 (THU056)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e08c5cb10d14d94c90219d34f629f4267\">There have been no significant changes to the fire perimeters in several days.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e38116d1f7e7480020e72c0f9fb3cbfd2\">Minimal fire behaviour was observed again today.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ebe9e4ab0321865dc4bca887ae69c5626\">DRY034 is currently measuring 44,954 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e37a6cd616c11e2ff5bdc6de19f722f66\">DRY035 is currently measuring 22,461 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e431bdb2c48efe4f5cb0c66a2a62d580c\">FireRanger crews are working establishing hose lines alongside heavy equipment operators constructing fire guards along portions of DRY035.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e7a835fd7c06bd54640133f58b6b3e629\">THU054 is currently measuring 7,859 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e957593707dc0ac6a8bcc589466ed688f\">THU056 is currently measuring 7,947 hectares and remains not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ec89b7e92bf60520398276abbfd39ba05\">Bucketing helicopters are targeting hotspots while heavy equipment operators construct fire guards along portions of THU056.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Dryden 36 \u2013 Upper and Lower Moosehide Lakes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"ee43b0fe07f0d3c526c8d1b3a86cc640e\">The fire is currently measuring 1,784 hectares and is not under control.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e2c6ff815614847995ffd9f3733af651e\">Ontario FireRangers are working alongside Alberta Wildfire fire fighters, bucketing helicopters and heavy equipment operators in suppression operations.<\/li>\n<li data-list-item-id=\"e7421a425da0b5c470129bc4c73a89680\">Minimal growth has been observed in several days under favourable weather conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Updated: July\u00a024,\u00a02026\u00a0at 7:15\u00a0p.m.\u202fCentral Daylight Time (CDT) There were 2 new wildland fire confirmed in the Northwest Region by the evening of July 24.
