Without saying they\u2019re singing the wrong song, Jesus tells them to move along so he can be with the girl who only \u201csleeps\u201d. They laugh, but he enters, takes her hand, and she rises from her deathly sleep. A song of healing and joy replaces the dirge.<\/p>\n<p>How often do we sing old hymns that don\u2019t align with our commitment to a wider vision of God\u2019s realm and the inclusion of all humanity? Old hymns comfort, but do we sing without embracing the full expanse of God\u2019s love? There\u2019s beauty in discovering new songs.\u00a0 We must embrace the breadth of humanity, expecting that God will reveal more beauty in discovering new songs. Just as we can\u2019t limit music to one style, we must embrace\u00a0 the breadth of humanity, expecting that God will reveal more beauty in each one. Labelling certain music and people as bad, misses God\u2019s welcoming song.<\/p>\n<p>Labelling someone a sinner is pejorative. It separates \u201cus\u201d from those pushed to society\u2019s margins and creates a superiority complex. Instead of labelling, Jesus calls, invited, and welcomes. Despite society\u2019s segregation of tax collectors, Jesus named Matthew a disciple. On this occasion, Matthew hosted Jesus and more \u201csinners\u201d at dinner.<\/p>\n<p>We must be careful not to \u201cclean up\u201d sinners and tax collectors to make them acceptable to prejudiced sensibilities. Jesus welcomed them for who they were, humans created in God\u2019s image. If God welcomes so-called sinners and their song, we must do the same. And in doing so,\u00a0 we discover that we sinner also have a welcome.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creation Connection:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a time of ecological crisis, we return to scripture not only for comfort, but for clarity and challenge. The scripture readings invite us to engage with Creation not as a finished product, but as a living, unfolding reality \u2013 one that God continues to shape through human courage, divine love, and Creation\u2019s healing power.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 14 &#8211; Third Sunday after Pentecost<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scriptures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Genesis 18:1-15; (21:1-7)\u00a0 Son promised to Abraham and Sarah<\/li>\n<li>Psalm\u00a0 116<\/li>\n<li>Romans 5:1-8\u00a0\u00a0 Justified by faith<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 9:35v=10:8 (9-23)\u00a0 Jesus and the disciples preach and heal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The service this Sunday, June 14<sup>th<\/sup> will be with St. Paul\u2019s United in Marathon via internet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Announcements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We welcome all those who are on a journey of faith to join us, as we explore our faith each Sunday.\u00a0 Service is at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>First United will not be having services during July and August. We encourage people to attend the other faith communities in Wawa.<\/p>\n<p>The Prayer Shawl group will meet on Saturday, June 13<sup>th<\/sup> at 2 \u2013 3:30 p.m. in the Family Room. Materials and help can be provided.<\/p>\n<p>Interdenominational song group will meet at the United Church at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17th, Anyone who likes to sing is welcome to join in. Will be singing a variety of songs.<\/p>\n<p>At present the Thrift Shop room in not ready for use. Please do not leave donations.
