{"id":82772,"date":"2026-04-22T07:34:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T11:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=82772"},"modified":"2026-04-22T07:34:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T11:34:37","slug":"chapleau-wawa-dirstrict-under-flood-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/22\/chapleau-wawa-dirstrict-under-flood-watch\/","title":{"rendered":"Chapleau\/Wawa Dirstrict under Flood Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Natural Resources \u2013 Chapleau Wawa District is advising area residents that a Flood Watch is in effect in the District until Friday, May 08, 2026 at 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the Chapleau, Wawa, Foleyet, White River, Hawk Junction, Missanabie,<br \/>\nDubreuilville, Manitouwadge, Sultan, Nemegos, Biscotasing and area should keep a close<br \/>\nwatch on local conditions and exercise caution around lakes, rivers, creeks and streams.<\/p>\n<p>The spring melt is underway and local waterways are rising rapidly. Low lying areas may<br \/>\nbe prone to flooding.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry is currently monitoring levels and flows of area waterways and undertaking<br \/>\nactive dam operations (where applicable) to attenuate flooding impacts to the extent<br \/>\npossible. Road closures are also possible.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions.<br \/>\nFurther updates will be issued as appropriate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description of Weather System<\/strong><br \/>\nOver the next few weeks, temperatures are forecast to be mild across the region with<br \/>\ndaytime temperatures slightly above freezing and nighttime temperatures slightly below<br \/>\nfreezing on average. Periods of rain and snow are forecast over the coming days;<br \/>\nhowever, no significant accumulation is anticipated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description of Current Conditions<\/strong><br \/>\nLakes and rivers are still largely frozen in the district though ice and shoreline conditions<br \/>\nare deteriorating with the warmer temperatures. Water in the snowpack is considered high.<br \/>\nFrozen ground conditions will limit soil infiltration; as a result, rainfall and any additional<br \/>\nsnowmelt in the coming days may generate significant surface runoff.
