Barker requesting a\u00a0medevac of a 53-year-old male crew member who was exhibiting symptoms of a\u00a0medically urgent nature and was recommended by a U.S. Coast Guard flight surgeon to be evacuated\u00a0to a trauma center.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: medium;\">The vessel was determined to be in Canadian waters.\u00a0Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton assumed command and requested air support from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, Michigan in order to evacuate the\u00a0crew member in a timely manner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: medium;\">Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter which rendezvoused with the James R. Barker. Coast Guard crew members hoisted and transported the man to Marathon, Ontario, where he was then transported by local EMS to a medical\u00a0facility\u00a0in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: medium;\">&#8220;The U.S. Coast Guard works closely with\u00a0our Canadian\u00a0counterparts on a regular basis for search and rescue, ice operations and numerous other missions\u00a0across our shared maritime border,&#8221; said\u00a0Lt.
