The Wawa Women\u2019s Hockey Association\u2019s annual hockey tournament has a new name.\u00a0 In honour of Lori Johnson\u2019s dedication to the promotion of our local community and recreation, we renamed the tournament the \u201cAnnual Lori Johnson Memorial Hockey Tournament\u201d.\u00a0 Lori enjoyed the game and the friendships made during her years as a player but continued to promote and devote her time to our annual tournaments in an organizational capacity upon retirement.\u00a0 She could always be found behind the scenes devoting countless hours on a busy tournament weekend.\u00a0 Her spirit will be with us this weekend.<\/p>\n
November 17, 18 and 19th9 is shaping up to be a big weekend with games starting at 7 p.m . on Friday night.\u00a0 There are 8 women\u2019s recreation teams participating.\u00a0 Teams from Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, Chapleau and two local teams will compete for cash prizes.\u00a0 The tournament committee will host a dance fundraiser at the community center on Saturday evening, featuring Ritchie Overton with great dance music.\u00a0 The fun starts at 9 p.m. and the theme is \u201cDecades in Time\u201d and is an age of majority event.<\/p>\n
The Community Center will be a busy place with the By-Hand Festival running the same weekend.\u00a0 \u00a0A perfect weekend; hockey, shopping and dancing!\u00a0 Once again our local businesses have pitched in to make the draws and prizes very attractive. Local support like this is the main reason this Annual Tournament is always a success.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The tournament schedule is posted on Wawa Recreation on Facebook so you can keep up and come out to cheer on the local teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
