\u201c \u2018Follow me\u2019 is Jesus\u2019 invitation to a new life. If the four fishermen Simon and Andrew, James and John accept the invitation, their lives will be forever different. They will be different. They will no longer catch just fish. They will fish for people.\u2019<\/p>\n
When Jesus says, \u2018 I will make you fish for people,\u2019 he is describing the transformation of their lives, not simply a job catching new members or followers. He could just as easily have said to the carpenters, \u2018 Follow me, and you will build the kingdom of heaven,\u2019 To the farmers, \u2018 Follow me, and you will grow God\u2019s people.\u2019 To the doctors, \u2018Follow me and you will heal the brokenness of the world.\u2019 To the teachers, \u2018Follow me and you will open minds and hearts to the presence of God.\u2019 To the parents,\u2019 Follow me and you will nurture new life.\u2019<\/p>\n
Whatever your life is, however, you spend your time, there is in that life Jesus\u2019 call to \u2018Follow me.\u2019 \u2018Follow me\u2019 is the call to participate with God in God\u2019s own saving work. It\u2019s the work of change and growth. That work is always about moving to a larger vision, orienting our life in a new direction, and experiencing that our little story of life is connected to and part of a much larger story of life. God\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n
