{"id":71062,"date":"2024-12-23T07:59:18","date_gmt":"2024-12-23T12:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=71062"},"modified":"2024-12-23T07:38:20","modified_gmt":"2024-12-23T12:38:20","slug":"statement-by-minister-hajdu-on-jordans-principle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/23\/statement-by-minister-hajdu-on-jordans-principle\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement by Minister Hajdu on Jordan&#8217;s Principle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Indigenous Services, <span class=\"xn-person\">Patty Hajdu<\/span>, issued the following statement on December 20th, 2024:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8220;Since 2016, nearly <span class=\"xn-money\">$8.8 billion<\/span> has been announced for <span class=\"xn-location\">Jordan&#8217;s<\/span> Principle to meet health, social, and education needs of First Nations children, taking into account their distinct circumstances, needs and experiences. More than 8.2 million products, services and supports have been approved under <span class=\"xn-location\">Jordan&#8217;s<\/span> Principle since 2016.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>We have worked to develop operations to meet the growing volume of requests. We are reviewing our processes at regional and national levels to be more consistent and clearer on the required documentation and the services First Nations children can access through <span class=\"xn-location\">Jordan&#8217;s<\/span> Principle.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>On <span class=\"xn-chron\">November 21, 2024<\/span>, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT) issued a summary ruling with reasons to follow related to the non-compliance motion and cross-motion on the implementation of <span class=\"xn-location\">Jordan&#8217;s<\/span> Principle.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>We submitted a response to the Tribunal on <span class=\"xn-chron\">December 10, 2024<\/span>. As outlined in our response, we are ready and willing to begin Tribunal-mediated consultations regarding <span class=\"xn-location\">Jordan&#8217;s<\/span> Principle.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>However, there are important legal issues around some aspects of the summary ruling. In order to make sure these can be properly resolved, on <span class=\"xn-chron\">December 20, 2024<\/span>, we filed a notice of application for judicial review with the Federal Court of the Tribunal&#8217;s decision. We have also requested an abeyance, or pause, on the judicial review, while we await the full reasons to come from the Tribunal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>We will continue in our work to implement <span class=\"xn-location\">Jordan&#8217;s<\/span> Principle.
