{"id":68974,"date":"2024-09-05T16:34:58","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T20:34:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=68974"},"modified":"2024-09-05T16:34:58","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T20:34:58","slug":"opp-long-weekend-tragic-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/05\/opp-long-weekend-tragic-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP &#8211; Long Weekend Tragic Statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a>It was a tragic Labour Day long weekend on and off the road, with two pedestrians, a motorcyclist and an off-road vehicle driver among the seven traffic fatalities that occurred in separate collisions in OPP jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the weekend, the OPP did its part to keep travellers safe and hold accountable those who did not, with officers laying <strong>9,143<\/strong> traffic\/marine and <em>Criminal Code<\/em> charges across the province.<\/p>\n<p>Aggressive drivers were the most significant offenders, making roads unsafe for the many families and other people travelling throughout the province to take in the last long weekend of summer.<\/p>\n<p>Officers laid a total of <strong>4,841 <\/strong>speeding charges and <strong>124<\/strong> stunt driving\/racing charges.<\/p>\n<p>Among other charges:<\/p>\n<p>No seatbelt: <strong>545<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Impaired driving: <strong>234<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Distracted driving: <strong>102<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With children and other students heading back to school, the OPP reminds drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to use roads responsibly and help ensure everyone gets to and from their destination safely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a tragic Labour Day long weekend on and off the road, with two pedestrians, a motorcyclist and an off-road vehicle driver among the seven traffic fatalities that occurred in separate collisions in OPP jurisdictions.
