\u201cWell, good morning, everyone.<\/p>\n
Thank you, Martin, for that kind introduction.<\/p>\n
And before I get started\u2026<\/p>\n
I want to congratulate you Colin\u2026<\/p>\n
And the outgoing AMO Board of Directors\u2026<\/p>\n
For all the work you\u2019ve done over the last two years.<\/p>\n
Thank you for your partnership\u2026<\/p>\n
And for your service to the communities you serve.<\/p>\n
Friends,<\/p>\n
I\u2019m thrilled to be back at the AMO conference\u2026<\/p>\n
And to celebrate AMO\u2019s 125th anniversary.<\/p>\n
It’s an amazing milestone.<\/p>\n
A milestone built on a long legacy of bringing people together\u2026<\/p>\n
In service of finding common ground\u2026<\/p>\n
And delivering real solutions\u2026<\/p>\n
To building stronger communities\u2026<\/p>\n
Where people and families can live, thrive, and prosper.<\/p>\n
And folks\u2026<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t hesitate to say\u2026<\/p>\n
That AMO\u2019s vision\u2026<\/p>\n
Its mandate\u2026<\/p>\n
Has never been more important.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s because Ontario is growing faster than it ever has before\u2026<\/p>\n
Some reports suggest that our population growth could be as high as eight hundred thousand.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s like adding a city the size of Mississauga<\/p>\n
In a single year.<\/p>\n
In a word\u2026<\/p>\n
This kind of growth is explosive.<\/p>\n
People from across Canada\u2026<\/p>\n
From around the world\u2026<\/p>\n
Are moving to Ontario\u2026<\/p>\n
Eager to be part of the thriving communities we\u2019re building\u2026<\/p>\n
Excited about the Ontario dream.<\/p>\n
These newcomers\u2026<\/p>\n
They also want to participate in our growing economy.<\/p>\n
An economy that\u2019s added more than 800,000 new jobs since we came into office in 2018\u2026<\/p>\n
With 160,000 new jobs added since the beginning of this year.<\/p>\n
In fact\u2026<\/p>\n
In recent years\u2026<\/p>\n
Ontario\u2019s economy has attracted tens of billions of dollars in the tech sector\u2026<\/p>\n
$4 billion in life sciences\u2026<\/p>\n
And more than $44 billion in electric vehicle and battery plants.<\/p>\n
What I\u2019m most proud of\u2026<\/p>\n
Is that these new investments\u2026<\/p>\n
These new jobs\u2026<\/p>\n
Are being created in communities across the province.<\/p>\n
Take for example our auto sector.<\/p>\n
We can\u2019t forget the dire shape it was in six years ago.<\/p>\n
Sky-high energy prices\u2026<\/p>\n
And an uncompetitive business environment\u2026<\/p>\n
Forced plants to close\u2026<\/p>\n
And take jobs 300,000 jobs south of the border.<\/p>\n
What a difference a few years and a pro-worker, pro-business government makes.<\/p>\n
Over the past four years\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve welcomed new battery plants in Alliston and St. Thomas\u2026<\/p>\n
With major investments across the electric vehicle supply chain in Brampton\u2026<\/p>\n
Brantford\u2026<\/p>\n
Port Colborne\u2026<\/p>\n
Windsor\u2026<\/p>\n
And Napanee\u2026<\/p>\n
To name just a few.<\/p>\n
It’s so important to our government\u2026<\/p>\n
To ensure that the economic growth we\u2019re experiencing\u2026<\/p>\n
Benefits the entire province.<\/p>\n
That no matter where you live in Ontario\u2026<\/p>\n
You have the same opportunity to access a better job with a bigger paycheque.<\/p>\n
So, today\u2026<\/p>\n
I\u2019m excited to announce a new online tool\u2026<\/p>\n
Developed by Invest Ontario\u2026<\/p>\n
That will help local and international investors better connect with municipalities.<\/p>\n
Through our new Partner Portal\u2026<\/p>\n
Municipalities will be able to upload information about commercial and industrial properties in their communities\u2026<\/p>\n
And provide companies with information about the property\u2026<\/p>\n
Including demographic trends, market analysis and First Nations treaty areas.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s going to be a powerful resource\u2026<\/p>\n
To help local governments and communities attract investments and jobs.<\/p>\n
But friends\u2026<\/p>\n
As I\u2019ve said before\u2026<\/p>\n
As we rebuild Ontario\u2019s economy\u2026<\/p>\n
As our population grows\u2026<\/p>\n
We have to build the infrastructure needed to support this growth\u2026<\/p>\n
And ensure that it\u2019s sustainable for generations to come.<\/p>\n
We can\u2019t make the same mistakes that previous governments made.<\/p>\n
We have to plan for the future\u2026<\/p>\n
And build the roads\u2026<\/p>\n
Highways\u2026<\/p>\n
Public transit\u2026<\/p>\n
Hospitals\u2026<\/p>\n
Homes\u2026<\/p>\n
Schools\u2026<\/p>\n
And energy infrastructure we need.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re doing\u2026<\/p>\n
With the most ambitious plan to build in Ontario history.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re investing nearly $100 billion to expand and improve transit, roads and highways.<\/p>\n
In the north\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019re widening Highway 17 from Kenora to the Manitoba border\u2026<\/p>\n
And making upgrades to Highways 584 and 11.<\/p>\n
In Windsor, we\u2019re building the Banwell Interchange\u2026<\/p>\n
And a new interchange connecting Highway 401 to Lauzon Parkway.<\/p>\n
Here in Ottawa\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019re providing funding for the design and planning for the Barnsdale Interchange.<\/p>\n
In the GTA\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019re building Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass.<\/p>\n
Shovels are in the ground\u2026<\/p>\n
To widen Highway 3 between Essex and Leamington.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re building a new Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph.<\/p>\n
Folks\u2026<\/p>\n
I could be here all day.<\/p>\n
This list of projects goes on and on and on.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re building more\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019re building faster.<\/p>\n
In health care\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019re investing $50 billion over the next ten years on more than 50 hospital projects.<\/p>\n
In education\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019re investing $16 billion to build, repair and expand schools.<\/p>\n
And we\u2019re making record investments to ensure people and businesses have access to reliable, clean and affordable electricity\u2026<\/p>\n
For generations to come.<\/p>\n
I know\u2026<\/p>\n
Over the next couple of days\u2026<\/p>\n
You\u2019ll hear more about these infrastructure investments from my Cabinet and caucus colleagues.<\/p>\n
But I want to take a couple of minutes here\u2026<\/p>\n
To talk about housing.<\/p>\n
Since we came into office in 2018\u2026<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve heard time and time again\u2026<\/p>\n
A lack of housing-enabling infrastructure\u2026<\/p>\n
Is the biggest barrier to getting more homes built.<\/p>\n
Mayors\u2026<\/p>\n
I want to say\u2026<\/p>\n
We hear you\u2026<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve heard you loud and clear.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why\u2026<\/p>\n
At this conference last year\u2026<\/p>\n
I announced the Building Faster Fund\u2026<\/p>\n
A $1.2 billion program\u2026<\/p>\n
That rewards municipalities for reaching annual housing targets.<\/p>\n
The Building Faster Fund has a been a huge success.<\/p>\n
Over the past several months\u2026<\/p>\n
I had the privilege of visiting so many of you\u2026<\/p>\n
Too many to name\u2026<\/p>\n
To deliver big cheques\u2026<\/p>\n
With big dollar figures\u2026<\/p>\n
That municipalities can use for infrastructure projects\u2026<\/p>\n
To lay the groundwork for more housing.<\/p>\n
In our most recent budget\u2026<\/p>\n
We also announced record investments in our Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund\u2026<\/p>\n
And the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.<\/p>\n
This new money\u2026<\/p>\n
Totaling nearly $2 billion\u2026<\/p>\n
Is going to be a gamechanger\u2026<\/p>\n
For so many of your communities.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month,<\/p>\n
We announced the first round of investments from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund\u2026<\/p>\n
A total of $970 million\u2026<\/p>\n
That will be distributed to 54 projects\u2026<\/p>\n
Across 60 municipalities\u2026<\/p>\n
Helping to build more than 500,000 homes.<\/p>\n
But we\u2019re not stopping there.<\/p>\n
We can\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re going to keep working with you\u2026<\/p>\n
To build the housing-enabling infrastructure you need\u2026<\/p>\n
To meet and exceed your housing targets\u2026<\/p>\n
And to bring the dream of home ownership into reach for more people.<\/p>\n
As we build more homes\u2026<\/p>\n
As you welcome more people to your communities\u2026<\/p>\n
We also recognize the need to invest in the public spaces that foster a strong sense of community and belonging.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why\u2026<\/p>\n
As part of our 2024 budget\u2026<\/p>\n
We announced a $200 million investment to help municipalities build and renew sport and recreational facilities.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m pleased to announce\u2026<\/p>\n
That applications for this new fund\u2026<\/p>\n
The Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund\u2026<\/p>\n
Are now open.<\/p>\n
Municipalities\u2026<\/p>\n
Local services boards\u2026<\/p>\n
And not-for-profit organizations\u2026<\/p>\n
Can apply for up to 50 per cent of funding for projects\u2026<\/p>\n
And Indigenous communities and organizations can apply for up to 90 per cent.<\/p>\n
I can\u2019t wait to visit your communities\u2026<\/p>\n
To stand with you\u2026<\/p>\n
As we invest in the sports and recreation facilities\u2026<\/p>\n
Where so many new memories will be made.<\/p>\n
Friends\u2026<\/p>\n
Ontario is growing\u2026<\/p>\n
Like never before.<\/p>\n
This kind of growth isn\u2019t without its challenges.<\/p>\n
But it also opens the door to incredible opportunities.<\/p>\n
In order to seize these opportunities\u2026<\/p>\n
And ensure every region\u2026<\/p>\n
Every municipality prospers\u2026<\/p>\n
We need to work together to build the roads, highways, transit, homes, hospitals and schools our growing communities need.<\/p>\n
We need to continue to create conditions to attract new investments\u2026<\/p>\n
To create better jobs\u2026<\/p>\n
And yes\u2026bigger paycheques.<\/p>\n
And we need to keep costs down for hardworking families.<\/p>\n
Ontario is the envy of the world.<\/p>\n
And we have every single thing we need to succeed.<\/p>\n
We have the talent\u2026<\/p>\n
We have the resources\u2026<\/p>\n
We have the determination.<\/p>\n
All we need is to keep working together\u2026<\/p>\n
Always in service of the great people of this province.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s build a better Ontario\u2026together.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s get it done.<\/p>\n
