{"id":68079,"date":"2024-07-13T08:24:01","date_gmt":"2024-07-13T12:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=68079"},"modified":"2024-07-13T08:24:01","modified_gmt":"2024-07-13T12:24:01","slug":"east-algoma-opp-two-arrested-after-fleeing-from-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/13\/east-algoma-opp-two-arrested-after-fleeing-from-police\/","title":{"rendered":"East Algoma OPP &#8211; Two arrested after fleeing from police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a>On July 11, 2024, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before 2:00 a.m., police observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) with no lights lit travelling on Pearson Drive.\u00a0The driver who is known to police fled the area.\u00a0Approximately 30 minutes later OPP conducted a traffic stop on Kilborn Avenue.\u00a0A rear passenger of the pick-up truck gave police a false name and was subsequently arrested.\u00a0The second rear passenger was the ATV driver that had fled on police earlier.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the ATV driver, Penny BAINS, 56 years-of-age from Elliot Lake was charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flight from peace officer<\/li>\n<li>Fail to stop for police<\/li>\n<li>Lamps not lit<\/li>\n<li>Fail to drive on shoulder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on September 12, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The rear passenger Tristin SAGO, 41 years-of-age from Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation was charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obstruct Peace Officer<\/li>\n<li>Failure to comply with undertaking (three counts)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on October 12, 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On July 11, 2024, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.
