{"id":63093,"date":"2023-10-24T14:43:16","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T18:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=63093"},"modified":"2023-10-24T14:43:16","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T18:43:16","slug":"manitoulin-opp-investigation-continues-into-fatal-collision-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2023\/10\/24\/manitoulin-opp-investigation-continues-into-fatal-collision-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Manitoulin OPP &#8211; Investigation continues into fatal collision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/>Two people have died and three people have been injured as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17.<\/p>\n<p>On October 24, 2023, shortly before 1:00 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services, and Sables-Spanish Rivers Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival, police learned of a head on collision involving a pickup truck and Commercial Motor Vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>A 19-year-old, from Espanola, was pronounced deceased at the scene.\u00a0In addition, a 17-year-old, also from Espanola, was transported to a local hospital where they later died as a result of their injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Three other people were injured in the collision and transported to a local hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The highway was reopened at 1:19 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP&#8217;s Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team.<\/p>\n<p>Further information will be released when it becomes available.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two people have died and three people have been injured as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17.
