The Wawa Public Library is very excited to have received a grant from the Government of Canada, New Horizons for Seniors. This grant will allow the library to purchase additional Large Print books and Audio Books for the library. Large prints and audio books make reading easier for seniors who may have difficulty reading small print.<\/p>\n
The focus of our grant application is to let seniors know that they are valued, talented and a resource that our community can depend.<\/p>\n
The programs we have planned are led, implemented and used by our Seniors.<\/p>\n

Project 1<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0New Horizons Knitting Connection<\/strong><\/p>\n The Wawa Public Library is calling on all seniors to participate in our Knitting Connection group! Our Grant allows us to purchase knitting needles, wool, and all things knitting.\u00a0 The projects we produce will be donated to those in need. \u00a0We are meeting every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. Despite the weather, five knitters came out last Thursday and began their projects. Come and join us and help us make a difference! Follow us on our Facebook page for updated information.\u2019<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Project #2<\/strong><\/p>\n New Horizons Intergenerational Buddy Reading<\/strong><\/p>\n Throughout the months of July and August, the Wawa Public Library is going to pair up seniors with older children with the goal of reading together, sharing opinions of a chosen book and getting to know one another through literature and a shared love of reading. Thanks to the New Horizons Grant received from the Government of Canada, we will be able to purchase a set of books that each participant will be able to keep! We ask that each pair meet at least 4-6 times throughout the summer. If you are a senior and would like to mentor a student or if you have a child who would like to participate, please contact the library at 705-856-2244 ext 291 or 290!<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Project #3<\/strong><\/p>\n New Horizons Outreach for Senior Shut-ins<\/strong><\/p>\n With this project, we hope to reach out to the seniors in our community, who may not mobile or able to leave their home.The New Horizons for Seniors grant will allow us to buy new tablets. We would be able to show seniors how to use a tablet as well as teaching them how to use the Libby App and how to access the library\u2019s website to place holds.
