{"id":59327,"date":"2023-02-22T09:38:49","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T14:38:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=59327"},"modified":"2023-02-22T09:38:49","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T14:38:49","slug":"new-initiative-supports-local-metis-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2023\/02\/22\/new-initiative-supports-local-metis-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"New initiative supports local M\u00e9tis businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Huron-Superior Regional M\u00e9tis Community (M\u00e9tis Nation of Ontario Region 4) has launched a new initiative that will invest in the growth of M\u00e9tis-owned small businesses within the region.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal small businesses are the backbone of any economy, and our people have been entrepreneurs since the day of the Fur Trade\u201d says Regional Councillor, Mitch Case. \u201cThe goal of our investments is to support our local M\u00e9tis economy while also contributing to the economic growth of the entire Algoma region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the project, the Huron-Superior Regional M\u00e9tis Community has partnered with Shop M\u00e9tis, an Ontario-based M\u00e9tis-owned company that specializes in supporting the growth and development of M\u00e9tis small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e9tis-owned small businesses of any size within the Huron-Superior Regional M\u00e9tis Community\u2019s catchment area can apply to receive a variety of free services tailored to their unique business development needs, including website development or updates, eCommerce integration, graphic design, digital marketing and social media support.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The initiative can also pay for registration to the local Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business\u2019s Certified Aboriginal Business Program, and Shop M\u00e9tis\u2019 national M\u00e9tis business database.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Huron-Superior Regional M\u00e9tis Community has also partnered with Indigenous Geographic, an Indigenous-owned video production company, to offer free video production and editing services to participating businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to give every M\u00e9tis small business the tools they need to grow and succeed,\u201d added Councillor Case. \u201cWhether you\u2019re a M\u00e9tis-owned bricks-and-mortar business, tradesperson, professional services provider, or at-home bead-worker, we want to connect and support you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e9tis-owned small businesses who want to learn more and access free business development services through the initiative can fill out the Huron-Superior M\u00e9tis Business Intake Form online (<a href=\"https:\/\/survey.zohopublic.com\/zs\/p9D7CS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)\u00a0or contact Samantha Boyer, Regional Manager, at SamanthaB@metisnation.org.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Huron-Superior Regional M\u00e9tis Community (M\u00e9tis Nation of Ontario \u2013 Region 4) includes the M\u00e9tis Nation of Ontario Citizens in the area from Sault Ste. Marie, east to Massey and Sault Ste. Marie, north to White River inclusive. Citizens are represented at the local level by the Historic Sault Ste.
