{"id":57824,"date":"2022-12-17T08:07:33","date_gmt":"2022-12-17T13:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=57824"},"modified":"2022-12-17T08:07:33","modified_gmt":"2022-12-17T13:07:33","slug":"npi-ushering-in-new-public-policy-strategies-for-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/17\/npi-ushering-in-new-public-policy-strategies-for-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"NPI Ushering in New Public Policy Strategies for 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-57825\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NPI-Logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NPI-Logo.png 300w, https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/NPI-Logo-273x300.png 273w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Given the wave of new municipal and provincial decision-makers, the latest mini-paper series by Northern Policy Institute dives into key considerations about a range of policy issues that can be used to inform the development of policy portfolios moving forward.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">Samrul Aahad and Kerem Karabeyo\u011flu, authors of the <em>Northern Ontario Quick Hit Insights Series<\/em>, spoke with subject-matter experts from across Northern Ontario on food security, immigration, physician recruitment, post-secondary education and homelessness.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">\u201cAs residents of Northern Ontario know, these policy issues, while incredibly important to building community prosperity, are but a fraction of the overall policy picture that make up Northern Ontario,\u201d says Rachel Rizzuto, Research Manager at Northern Policy Institute. \u201cThere is a lot of action being undertaken in Northern Ontario to tackle these issues and getting that information in the hands of decision-makers is critical, especially those new in the municipal and provincial governments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">Based on the findings, there are several recommendations the series outlines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A more collaborative approach with shared electronic records could yield a more effective and encompassing delivery of services for those who are struggling with homelessness, mental health and\/or addiction,<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening population retention through increasing housing quality and affordability,<\/li>\n<li>Addressing the funding issue for post-secondary institutions, including Indigenous institutions,<\/li>\n<li>Creation of targeted food security strategies, and<\/li>\n<li>Increasing incentives for physicians to work in Northern Ontario.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\">Want to learn more?
