{"id":54,"date":"2017-02-12T19:14:41","date_gmt":"2017-02-13T00:14:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=54"},"modified":"2017-09-12T22:26:16","modified_gmt":"2017-09-13T02:26:16","slug":"opp-safety-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2017\/02\/12\/opp-safety-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP Safety Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/>The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding both motorists and pedestrians that it is important to always be safe whether you are home alone, out walking or driving a vehicle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Here are some tips that will help keep you safe while out walking<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Use a buddy system if you can and be aware of your surroundings making note of street names and buildings or stores that you have passed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Avoid secluded areas and always carry a cell phone with you<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A personal alarm is always a good idea to have, something that makes loud noises<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Plan your route ahead of time and always tell someone where you are going and a time you will arrive at the location.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Here are some tips that will help keep you safe in a vehicle.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ensure your vehicle is mechanically maintained and fit for the road.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Always carry a cell phone and make sure it is charged.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Have a first aid kit in the vehicle<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Back into a parking spot and park in a well-lit area<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Never pick up a hitch hiker<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you come across a situation that you believe requires road side assistance or police, contact the OPP communication centre at 1-888-310-1122 or *OPP (677) for cell phone users, or if it is an emergency call 9-1-1.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Here are some tips to help keep you safe when you are home alone.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Don\u2019t open the door to a stranger<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Install quality locks<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Use door viewers before opening the door<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Keep doors and windows locked when away<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Don\u2019t give personal information to a stranger<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Don\u2019t hide keys outside, leave them with a trusted friend or family member<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Don\u2019t broadcast that you are away<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"133\" \/><strong>About the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)<\/strong> - The Ontario Provincial Police is<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 6,200 uniformed officers, 3,100 civilian employees and 800 Auxiliary officers.
