{"id":53966,"date":"2022-05-18T19:44:11","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T23:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=53966"},"modified":"2022-05-18T19:44:11","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T23:44:11","slug":"east-algoma-opp-elliot-lake-man-charged-after-being-recognized-on-video-using-stolen-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2022\/05\/18\/east-algoma-opp-elliot-lake-man-charged-after-being-recognized-on-video-using-stolen-cards\/","title":{"rendered":"East Algoma OPP &#8211; Elliot Lake Man charged after being recognized on video using stolen cards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a>On May 17, 2022, at approximately 4:45 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol on Highway 108 in the City of Elliot Lake when a wanted person was recognized and subsequently arrested.<\/p>\n<p>On May 16, 2022 a resident from Maple Road reported their car had been entered overnight and items were stolen.\u00a0Among those items were a Visa credit card and a debit card.\u00a0The homeowner had video footage of the person in their driveway.\u00a0In addition, the stolen cards were used at a bank machine and gas station.\u00a0Both places also provided video footage of the person using the cards.\u00a0Police viewed the video and recognized the person.<\/p>\n<p>Cody EVERTON, 27 years-old, from Elliot Lake was charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Theft Under $5000 From a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)<\/li>\n<li>Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC<\/li>\n<li>Trespassing at Night (Two Counts), contrary to section 177 of the CC<\/li>\n<li>Use of Credit Card (Two Counts), contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the CC<\/li>\n<li>Failure to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste.
