Paul Calandra, Minister of Long- Term Care announced significant funding for long term care beds across Northern Ontario.\u00a0 Northern Ontario will be the recipient of 228 beds for residents.\u00a0As PC candidate for Algoma Manitoulin, Cheryl Fort stated \u201cI am delighted to know that both Manitouwadge and Elliot Lake were part of today\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n

Elliot Lake\u2019s St. Joseph\u2019s Manor will be expanded by 32 additional new beds.\u00a0 Construction is slated for the fall of 2022 and once complete will be home to 96 residents. In addition, Minister Calandra confirmed that 18 new beds will be constructed at Sant\u00e9 Manitouwadge Health, bringing the number of beds to 27.\u201d<\/p>\n

Northern Ontario currently has 1,249 new beds and 1,977 upgraded long-term care beds under development or under construction, which is part of the Doug Ford\u2019s government plan to fix long-term care and to ensure Ontario\u2019s seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they deserve.<\/p>\n
