{"id":51970,"date":"2022-02-11T12:01:27","date_gmt":"2022-02-11T17:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=51970"},"modified":"2026-01-03T13:39:47","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T18:39:47","slug":"nipigon-opp-adverse-weather-conditions-driving-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2022\/02\/11\/nipigon-opp-adverse-weather-conditions-driving-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"Nipigon OPP &#8211; Adverse Weather Conditions &#8211; Driving Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Winter weather is upon us and the\u00a0Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorists that adverse weather conditions put extra demands on you as a driver and on your vehicle&#8217;s performance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAY ALERT.\u00a0SLOW DOWN.\u00a0STAY IN CONTROL.<\/strong>\u00a0These are three key elements to safe winter driving.\u00a0Motorists are advised of the following safety tips to help everyone arrive at their destination safely.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Drive according to current road and weather conditions.\u00a0Reduce your speed when\u00a0adverse weather conditions arise.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Remember, longer stopping distances may be required.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Be able to see and be seen. Clean frost and snow off all windows, mirrors, and lights.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Consider installing four winter tires on your vehicle, install good wiper blades and keep an ample supply of windshield washer fluid in your vehicle<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Give yourself extra time to reach your destination. Consider postponing or cancelling your trip if the weather does not improve.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following is a list of some recommended items to carry in your vehicle:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>A charged cell phone in case of an emergency<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>An ice scraper, snow brush, a small shovel, sand, salt or other traction aid<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Booster cables, road flares, fuel line anti-freeze, and tow rope<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Extra clothing and footwear, a blanket, high energy non-perishable food, matches and a candle\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Flashlight, small tool kit, first aid kit<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To check on road conditions before your trip you can call 5-1-1.\u00a0The Ministry of Transportation&#8217;s Traveler Information Services provides road information for provincial highways in Ontario by telephone at 5-1-1 or online with accessible information on the MTO Ontario 511 website at www.ontario.ca\/511<\/p>\n<p class=\"ql-align-center\"><strong>STAY ALERT.\u00a0SLOW DOWN.\u00a0STAY IN CONTROL.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Winter weather is upon us and the\u00a0Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorists that adverse weather conditions put extra demands on you as a driver and on your vehicle&#8217;s performance.
