Northern Ontarian are ready for better. We need a strong northern team of NDP MPs to stand up for the North.\u201d\u202f<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cAfter six years under Justin Trudeau, the cost of living in Northern Ontario keeps going up while the services we need keep getting cut,\u201d said Hughes. \u201cNew Democrats will make life more affordable and provide more services families can depend on.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><span data-contrast=\"none\">New Democrats highlighted five commitments for Northern Ontario:\u202f<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li role=\"listitem\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-listid=\"5\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Making life affordable<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f- Cover the costs for prescription medication and dental care, reduce the cost of rent and buying a home, bring down cell phone bills and bring in affordable and reliable broadband to all northern communities.\u202f<\/span><\/li>\n<li role=\"listitem\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-listid=\"5\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Strengthening Northern services<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f\u2013 Hire more nurses and doctors, protect seniors and workers by taking the profit out of long-term care, and faster and free access to mental health care and addictions services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li role=\"listitem\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-listid=\"6\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Fighting for jobs and economic growth<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f\u2013 Support small businesses and local jobs through the pandemic, ensure an independent FedNor agency is focused on investing in northern economic development and job creation, and prioritize northern steel, lumber, and minerals in infrastructure projects.\u202f<\/span><\/li>\n<li role=\"listitem\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-listid=\"7\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Putting reconciliation into action<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f- Work in partnership with First Nations to pursue reconciliation and foster thriving, resilient communities with strong public services like clean drinking water, quality housing and better health care.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li role=\"listitem\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-listid=\"8\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Acting on climate change<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f\u2013 End Trudeau\u2019s record of climate failure and multi-million-dollar subsidies to big oil companies, and instead, invest in communities to respond to wildfires, flooding, and extreme weather
