{"id":45068,"date":"2021-06-02T08:01:52","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T12:01:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=45068"},"modified":"2021-05-29T16:51:06","modified_gmt":"2021-05-29T20:51:06","slug":"wavs-door-to-door-scams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/02\/wavs-door-to-door-scams\/","title":{"rendered":"WAVS &#8211; Door to Door Scams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Competition Bureau of Canada has published the <em><u>The Little Black Book of Scams 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Edition<\/u><\/em> and it is available online at <em>https:\/\/www.competitionbureau.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/cb-bc.nsf\/eng\/04333.htm<\/em><em>. <\/em>The information is invaluable and should be of interest to virtually everyone.\u00a0 Over the next few months we will be publishing the information from the <em><u>The Little Black Book of Scams 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Edition, <\/u><\/em>one scam at a time.<em><u>\u00a0 <\/u><\/em>\u00a0Last week we published Emergency Scams.\u00a0 Today the topic is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Door to Door Scams<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Knock, knock!\u00a0 Who\u2019s there?\u00a0 A scammer!<\/p>\n<p>Despite living in the digital age, there are still some old fashioned scams that come right to your door, posing a threat to you and to businesses.\u00a0 With this trick, door-to-door salespeople use high-pressure tactics to convince you to buy a product or sign up for a service you don\u2019t want or need.\u00a0 These aggressive pitches are often for charitable donations, investment opportunities or home services and maintenance of various appliances, like water heaters, furnaces and air conditioners.\u00a0 In many cases you\u2019ll never receive the product or service promised.\u00a0 In others, the products or services are of poor quality or not as represented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips to protect yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t feel pressured to make a quick decision \u2013 take time to do some research on the seller and the products first.<\/li>\n<li>Ask for photo ID, get the name of the person and of the company or charity they represent.<\/li>\n<li>Ask for the charity\u2019s breakdown of where funds are allocated. Be sure to get this in writing.<\/li>\n<li>Never share any personal information or copies of any bills or financial statements.<\/li>\n<li>Only allow access to your property to people you trust.<\/li>\n<li>Research before you invest. Don\u2019t sign anything and always read the fine print.<\/li>\n<li>Know your rights.
