{"id":43750,"date":"2021-04-14T08:02:15","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T12:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=43750"},"modified":"2021-04-12T10:12:44","modified_gmt":"2021-04-12T14:12:44","slug":"health-and-medical-scams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2021\/04\/14\/health-and-medical-scams\/","title":{"rendered":"Health and Medical Scams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Competition Bureau of Canada has published the <em><u>The Little Black Book of Scams 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Edition<\/u><\/em> and it is available online at <em>https:\/\/www.competitionbureau.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/cb-bc.nsf\/eng\/04333.htm<\/em><em>. <\/em>The information is invaluable and should be of interest to virtually everyone.\u00a0 Over the next few months, WAVS will be publishing the information from the <em><u>The Little Black Book of Scams 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Edition, <\/u><\/em>one scam at a time.<em><u>\u00a0 <\/u><\/em>\u00a0Last week we published Identity Theft.\u00a0 Today the topic is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Medical Scams<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Watch our for magical cures that offer quick and easy fixes.<\/p>\n<p>There are fraudsters out there who hope to take advantage of people\u2019s suffering.\u00a0 The three most common types of health scams are miracle cures, weight loss programs and fake online pharmacies.\u00a0 In all cases, they often appear as sponsored post on social media or website pop-ups.<\/p>\n<p>Scammers offer products and services that seem to be legitimate alternative medicines and treatments that quickly and easily treat serious conditions.\u00a0 Some of these may seem to be endorsed by celebrities or promoted by testimonials of people claiming to have been cured.<\/p>\n<p>Weight loss scams promise dramatic results with little to no effort.\u00a0 The scammers might promote unusual diets; revolutionary exercises; fat-busting devices; or breakthrough products, such as pills, patches or creams.<\/p>\n<p>Fake online pharmacies offer drugs and medications at very cheap prices or without a doctor\u2019s prescription.\u00a0 They advertise on the internet and send spam emails.\u00a0 If you do not receive the promised products, there is no guarantee they are the real thing or safe to take.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips to protect yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember there are no magic pills or miracle cures for achieving quick weight loss or treating medical conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t trust claims about medicines, supplements or other treatments.
