{"id":43455,"date":"2021-03-31T10:50:10","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T14:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=43455"},"modified":"2021-03-31T10:50:10","modified_gmt":"2021-03-31T14:50:10","slug":"be-aware-of-scams-subscription-traps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2021\/03\/31\/be-aware-of-scams-subscription-traps\/","title":{"rendered":"Be aware of Scams &#8211; Subscription Traps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Competition Bureau of Canada has published the <em><u>The Little Black Book of Scams 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Edition<\/u><\/em> and it is available online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.competitionbureau.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/cb-bc.nsf\/eng\/04333.htm\"><em>https:\/\/www.competitionbureau.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/cb-bc.nsf\/eng\/04333.htm<\/em><\/a><em>. <\/em>The information is invaluable and should be of interest to virtually everyone.\u00a0 Last week we published Fraud Fighting 101.\u00a0 Today the topic is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subscription Traps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Good deals can bait you into falling for expensive traps!<\/p>\n<p>A subscription trap can trick you by offering \u2018free\u2019 or \u2018low-cost\u2019 trials of products and services.\u00a0 Products commonly offered are weight loss pills, health foods, pharmaceuticals and anti-ageing products.\u00a0 Once you provide your credit card information to cover shipping costs you are unknowingly locked into a monthly subscription.\u00a0 Delivery and billing can the be difficult, if not almost impossible, to stop.\u00a0 Scammers use websites, emails, social media platforms and phones to reel people in.\u00a0 Remember, high-pressure sales tactics like a \u2018limited time offer\u2019 are often used to rush you into making a decision.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips to protect yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trust your instincts. If it is too good to be true, don\u2019t sign up.<\/li>\n<li>Before you sign up for a free trial, research the company and read reviews, especially the negative ones. The Better Business Bureau is a great source of information.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t sign up if you can\u2019t find or understand the terms and conditions.
