\"\"<\/a>Algoma Public Health (APH) has received the first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for the Algoma district.\u00a0 The province has allotted these doses to\u00a0residents of long-term care homes (LTCH), as prioritized in phase one of Ontario\u2019s COVID-19 vaccination program.<\/p>\n

Algoma’s long-term care partners have been working closely with\u00a0APH\u00a0since the beginning of January and are ready to start the immunization process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe arrival of the vaccine is great news for our community, and helps us build another strong layer of protection around our long-term care residents,\u201d said Dr. Jennifer Loo, Medical Officer of Health for Algoma Public Health. \u201cI want to thank all the partners who are working together to make this happen, and who continue to\u00a0make preparations for broader community immunization in Algoma, once vaccines are available.\u201d<\/p>\n

As further vaccine arrives,\u00a0APH will work with all LTCHs in the Algoma district to provide first doses to\u00a0over 1,000 LTCH residents over the next two weeks. Protection is achieved after a person receives two doses of the vaccine, given 28 days apart.<\/p>\n

APH is reminding the community that we must all work together and continue to follow public health measures, even as vaccinations begin.<\/p>\n
