Wounds Canada provides the following recommendations for clients living with diabetes (graphic at right). For more information, visit Wounds Canada\u2019s <em>Diabetes, Healthy Feet and You<\/em> website at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woundscanada.ca\/for-patients-public\">https:\/\/www.woundscanada.ca\/for-patients-public<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If having you are currently meeting with your health care team virtually (phone or video consultations), you can complete this \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/diabetes-resources-production.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/diabetes-storage\/migration\/pdf\/Touch-the-toes-test.0812.pdf\">Touch The Toes Test\u2019<\/a> before your next appointment.\u00a0 This foot assessment can be done at home \u2013 it will provide your health care provider with valuable information about the health of your feet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Diabetes Awareness Month theme is \u201cNurses make the difference for diabetes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Dunn Health Centre\u2019s Certified Foot Care Nurses provide foot care to North Algoma Diabetes Education Program (NADEP) clients in order to minimize foot complications related to diabetes. \u00a0Colette Dechamplain, RN provides foot care services to clients living in Dubreuilville and Kim Shorey, RPN provides services in Wawa and White River.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This week we are highlighting <strong>Kim<\/strong> and<strong> Colette<\/strong> in our <strong>Nurse Spotlight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kim enjoys being an active member of the multidisciplinary team at the diabetes education program and the Lady Dunn Health Centre. While caring for a client\u2019s feet and nails, Kim focuses on building therapeutic relationships, provides appropriate education and contributes to their overall wellness. Kim finds it rewarding to help a client or know that you have helped improve how they feel on a daily basis by removing overgrown nails, or calluses that make it painful to walk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFoot care is not just about nails, it impacts a person\u2019s overall well-being, mobility, physical activity, and self-image.\u201d When Kim is not busy maintaining client\u2019s feet, she enjoys hiking in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter, she spends a lot of time outdoors and with her beautiful dogs!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En offrant les soins des pieds \u00e0 ses clients, Colette aime \u00eatre capable de partager ses connaissances et offrir de l\u2019\u00e9ducation afin de pr\u00e9venir les complications li\u00e9es au pied diab\u00e9tique.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque Colette n\u2019est pas au travail, elle jouit de la nature en faisant de la raquette ou du kayak.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thank you Kim and Colette for the care you provide clients! <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Looking after your feet is an important part of managing diabetes.
