The AMO conference opens <span class=\"xn-chron\">Monday August 17<\/span> and will run to <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 19<\/span>. It will be offered entirely online \u2013 a first in the more than 120-year history of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 AMO Conference is <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada&#8217;s<\/span> most comprehensive gathering of government leaders since the global pandemic began. More than 1,300 people will participate through a custom-made online platform.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;COVID-19 has changed our world. We need the AMO conference now, more than ever. As always, it provides the opportunity to come together, to learn from one another, and to find solutions to pressing challenges,&#8221; said AMO President <span class=\"xn-person\">Jamie McGarvey<\/span>, Mayor of Parry Sound.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Premier and Minister Elliott, participants will also hear from AMO President McGarvey on Monday. Other keynote speakers during the conference include Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing <span class=\"xn-person\">Steven Clark<\/span>, NDP Leader <span class=\"xn-person\">Andrea Horwath<\/span> (Leader of the Official Opposition), new Liberal Leader <span class=\"xn-person\">Steven Del Duca<\/span>, and Green Party Leader <span class=\"xn-person\">Mike Schreiner<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>This year AMO is partnering with TVO and the team at The Agenda with <span class=\"xn-person\">Steve Paikin<\/span>, TVO&#8217;s flagship current affairs program, to deliver aspects of the conference and to expand its reach.<\/p>\n<p>The conference program features more than 40 speakers, sessions and workshops, covering topics such as COVID-19, municipal services and economic recovery; long-term care; broadband internet quality and coverage across <span class=\"xn-location\">Ontario<\/span>; diversity, equality and women in leadership; building strong relationships with Indigenous communities; climate change; waste management and the transition to full producer responsibility; and much more. <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2886767-1&amp;h=2046568471&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amo.on.ca%2F2020AMOConference%2F2020ConferenceProgram&amp;a=Program+details\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Program details<\/a> are available at <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2886767-1&amp;h=3652215791&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amo.on.ca%2F&amp;a=www.amo.on.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">www.amo.on.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Conference delegates will elect a new President and Board. Municipal staff and elected officials will take part in 460 online delegation meetings with provincial ministries.
