\nOn Wednesday, July 29, 2020, Claude passed away peacefully surrounded by members of his \u201cWawa Family\u201d. Claude was born in Kapuskasing on December 6, 1942, and predeceased by his parents Ernest and Blanche Paradis and his sister Lise Ashikawa. He is survived by his brother Robert Paradis and his wife Peggy Averill (late Candace) and his brother-in-law Mike Ashikawa. Claude was the proud uncle of Christopher, Justin and Benjamin Paradis and Jeffrey and Tosh Ashikawa. Dear friend of Ron and Lina Rody and their extended family and the Mathieu family, as well as many teaching colleagues, travelling companions and numerous friends.<\/p>\n

Claude started his teaching career in Kapuskasing before moving to Wawa in 1966. From 1968-1970 and again from 1972-1974 Claude taught for the Department of National Defence in Germany. It was during those years that he made many lifelong friends and developed his love of travel that took him to all seven continents.<\/p>\n

Claude was instrumental in establishing Wawa\u2019s first French Language Secondary School, Ecole Carrefour Superior Nord. He was the school\u2019s first principal and held that position until his retirement in 1997.<\/p>\n

About his globe-trotting experiences Claude always said, \u201cI was never afraid to go anywhere, meet new people and experience new things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thank you to Red Cross Home Care Services, Meals on Wheels and to each and every person who helped Claude in any way to stay in his home which he loved so much for as long as he did.<\/p>\n

A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff of the Lady Dunn Health Centre for the excellent care and compassion bestowed on our brother and friend, Claude. Memorial donations made to the Lady Dunn Health Centre Foundation would by greatly appreciated by the family.<\/p>\n

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place with family and friends at a later date in Kapuskasing.<\/p>\n

In loving memory, rest in peace Claude.<\/p>\n

Claude a commenc\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re d’enseignant \u00e0 Kapuskasing avant de d\u00e9m\u00e9nager \u00e0 Wawa en 1966. De 1968 \u00e0 1970, puis de 1972 \u00e0 1974, Claude a enseign\u00e9 au minist\u00e8re de la D\u00e9fense nationale en Allemagne. C’est au cours de ces ann\u00e9es qu’il s’est fait de nombreux amis pour la vie et a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 son amour du voyage qui l’a amen\u00e9 sur les sept continents.<\/p>\n

Claude a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant dans la cr\u00e9ation de la premi\u00e8re \u00e9cole secondaire de langue fran\u00e7aise de Wawa, l\u2019Ecole Carrefour Superior Nord. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier directeur de l\u2019\u00e9cole et a occup\u00e9 ce poste jusqu\u2019\u00e0 sa retraite en 1997.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 propos de ses exp\u00e9riences de globe-trotter, Claude a toujours dit: \u00abJe n’ai jamais eu peur d’aller nulle part, de rencontrer de nouvelles personnes et d’exp\u00e9rimenter de nouvelles choses.<\/p>\n

Merci aux Services de soins \u00e0 domicile de la Croix-Rouge, \u00e0 la popote roulante et \u00e0 toutes les personnes qui ont aid\u00e9 Claude de quelque fa\u00e7on que ce soit \u00e0 rester dans sa maison qu’il a tant aim\u00e9e aussi longtemps qu’il l’a fait.<\/p>\n

Nous remercions chaleureusement le personnel du Centre de sant\u00e9 Lady Dunn pour les excellents soins et la compassion accord\u00e9s \u00e0 notre fr\u00e8re et ami, Claude. Les dons comm\u00e9moratifs faits \u00e0 la Fondation du Centre de sant\u00e9 Lady Dunn seraient grandement appr\u00e9ci\u00e9s par la famille.<\/p>\n

La cr\u00e9mation a eu lieu et un service fun\u00e9raire aura lieu avec la famille et les amis \u00e0 une date ult\u00e9rieure \u00e0 Kapuskasing.<\/p>\n
