{"id":33226,"date":"2020-06-21T08:46:45","date_gmt":"2020-06-21T12:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=33226"},"modified":"2020-06-21T08:46:45","modified_gmt":"2020-06-21T12:46:45","slug":"june-is-seniors-month-stay-safe-stay-in-touch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2020\/06\/21\/june-is-seniors-month-stay-safe-stay-in-touch\/","title":{"rendered":"June is Seniors Month.\u00a0 Stay Safe, Stay in Touch!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ontario Seniors\u2019 Secretariat declares June is Seniors Month with the theme; \u201cStay safe, Stay in Touch\u201d.\u00a0 \u201cIt is a time when we recognize the contributions that older adults have made in communities across our province\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Given the current circumstances, they are focusing on engaging and bringing seniors together virtually, rather than in person.<\/p>\n<p>There are many ways to connect as we get through this pandemic together.\u00a0 Some seniors\u2019 services and organizations continue to connect with their clients with wellness check phone calls.\u00a0 Others drop activity packages off to keep their clients engaged at home in lieu of group activities. \u00a0Community organizations in Wawa have rallied together to reach out and identify seniors living alone so that so no one is left out. If you are a senior living alone and in need of referrals to any of these services, you may contact any of the community organisations that make up the Seniors Solution Council. The Seniors Solution Council is made up of agencies that work with seniors; Wawa Family Health Team, Wawa Goose Club, Canadian Red Cross, the Royal Canadian Legion and members of the community.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, the Seniors Solution Council has celebrated with a Garden Party and this year would have been it\u2019s 15<sup>th<\/sup> annual.\u00a0 We will certainly miss the food, fun and friendship of celebrating this event with the long-term care residents at the Lady Dunn Health Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The Municipality of Wawa has declared June Seniors Month with a proclamation acknowledging the accomplishments of seniors in our town. Now that things are loosening up a little, the Red Hat Ladies will celebrate with a \u2018Social Distancing Lunch\u201d meet-up in their vehicles at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre on June 25th from 12:30 to 1:30.<\/p>\n<p>Wawa certainly has it\u2019s share of amazing seniors that have made many past contributions as well as current.\u00a0 The vast majority of volunteers in our community are seniors.\u00a0 They get involved and stay involved.\u00a0 Thank you from the Seniors Solution Council.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ontario Seniors\u2019 Secretariat declares June is Seniors Month with the theme; \u201cStay safe, Stay in Touch\u201d.\u00a0 \u201cIt is a time when we recognize the contributions that older adults have made in communities across our province\u201d.
