class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> remains committed to protecting the health and safety of Canadians and reducing the spread of COVID-19 in <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span>. \u00a0The Government recognizes however that the temporary border measures put in place to fight the spread of COVID-19, while necessary, have created challenges for some families.<\/p>\n<p>The Government has therefore been looking at ways to keep families together and support unity while respecting the need for continued vigilance and border measures at this time.<\/p>\n<p>The Canada Border Services Agency is announcing that as of <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 8, 2020<\/span> <span class=\"xn-chron\">23:59 EDT<\/span>, foreign nationals who are immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and who do not have COVID-19 or exhibit any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, or who do not have reason to believe they have COVID-19, will be exempt from the prohibition on entry to <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> if entering to be with an immediate family member for a period of at least 15 days.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign nationals who are admitted into Canada\u00a0pursuant to this exemption<b> must<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2823835-1&amp;h=2912139008&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.canada.ca%2Fen%2Fpublic-health%2Fservices%2Fpublications%2Fdiseases-conditions%2F2019-novel-coronavirus-information-sheet.html&amp;a=quarantine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">quarantine<\/a> for 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>An immediate family member refers to a person&#8217;s:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>spouse or common-law partner;<\/li>\n<li>dependent child, as defined in section 2 of the <i>Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations<\/i>, or a dependent child of the person&#8217;s spouse or common-law partner;<\/li>\n<li>dependent child, as defined in section 2 of the <i>Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations<\/i>, of a dependent child referred to in paragraph (b):<\/li>\n<li>parent or step-parent or the parent or step-parent of the person&#8217;s spouse or common-law partner;<\/li>\n<li>guardian or tutor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>All foreign nationals who have COVID-19 or exhibit any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 continue to remain prohibited from entering <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>This change does not apply to <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2823835-1&amp;h=2498784765&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.canada.ca%2Fen%2Fimmigration-refugees-citizenship%2Fservices%2Fcoronavirus-covid19%2Ftravel-restrictions-exemptions.html%23family_member&amp;a=immediate+family+members+of+temporary+residents+in+Canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">immediate family members of temporary residents in <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span><\/a>, such as those on a student or work visa.<\/p>\n<p><b>Quick Facts <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All persons entering <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> \u2013 no matter their country of origin or mode of entry \u2013 must isolate themselves for 14 days if they have symptoms of or confirmed COVID-19 or quarantine themselves for 14 days if they do not have symptoms of COVID-19.<\/li>\n<li>Asymptomatic foreign national immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who intend to stay in <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> for 14 days or less may still enter <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> as long as their entry is not for a purpose that is discretionary and, if seeking entry from <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span>, are able to comply with the requirement to quarantine based on their purpose of travel and intended length of stay.<\/li>\n<li>The temporary restriction on all discretionary\/optional travel at the <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span>-U.S. border put in place on <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 21<\/span> at <span class=\"xn-chron\">12:01 a.m. EDT<\/span> continues. This restriction is in place until at least <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 21, 2020<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Canadian citizens, permanent residents and Registered Indians under the <i>Indian Act<\/i> can continue to enter <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> by right, and are subject to COVID-19 entry screening measures.<\/li>\n<li>The immediate family member will need to confirm that they have a suitable place to <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2823835-1&amp;h=2912139008&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.canada.ca%2Fen%2Fpublic-health%2Fservices%2Fpublications%2Fdiseases-conditions%2F2019-novel-coronavirus-information-sheet.html&amp;a=quarantine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">quarantine<\/a>\u00a0for 14 days where they will have access to basic necessities (such as food and medication) and not have contact with vulnerable people, such as adults aged 65 years or over and people with pre-existing medical conditions, unless the vulnerable person is a consenting adult or is the parent or minor in a parent-minor relationship. Travellers will be expected to make plans for where they will quarantine in advance of arriving to <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Travellers should consult the respective \u00a0provincial\/territorial websites to ensure that they are aware of the provincial\/territorial entry, quarantine and public health requirements and can abide by those requirements.<\/li>\n<li>As of <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 31, 2020<\/span>, anyone arriving in <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> in any mode (air, land or marine) must provide their contact information to a border services officer when seeking entry. This information is collected on behalf of Public Health Agency of <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> to support their compliance and enforcement of the 14-day quarantine or isolation requirement outlined in <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2823835-1&amp;h=1196418669&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Forders-in-council.canada.ca%2Fattachment.php%3Fattach%3D39166%26lang%3Den&amp;a=Order+in+Council+2020-0260\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Order in Council 2020-0260<\/a>.\u00a0Travellers are encouraged to download the mobile <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2823835-1&amp;h=875245588&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.canada.ca%2Fen%2Fpublic-health%2Fservices%2Fdiseases%2F2019-novel-coronavirus-infection%2Flatest-travel-health-advice.html%23f&amp;a=ArriveCAN+App\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ArriveCAN App<\/a> prior to arrival to reduce wait times and limit contact at the border.
