Marie &amp; Area &#8211; Yes (17)<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong>News Tidbits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<aside><\/aside>\n<aside>\n<aside>Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines and Minister of Indigenous Affairs, and Bill Walker, Associate Minister of Energy, to make an announcement at 1 p.m.<\/aside>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health, and Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health, will hold bi-weekly media briefings to provide an update on the province&#8217;s ongoing response to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) at 3 p.m. Starting today, a regular media briefing will be held every Monday and Thursday at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>As of June 1, backcountry camping will be available at Ontario Parks, including access points, paddle and portage routes and hiking trails. Ontario Parks will also be expanding day-use activities to include picnicking and off-leash pet areas. Following current provincial restrictions, no more than five people will be allowed to occupy a backcountry campsite during their stay, unless they live in the same household. Ontario is also reopening recreational camping on Crown land while reminding visitors to continue to adhere to public health advice as the best defense against COVID-19, such as practicing physical distancing, wearing a face covering when physical distancing is a challenge, and frequent hand washing. Ontario Parks will begin collecting fees for day-use and backcountry camping access as of June 1. Please visit Ontario parks and click on the \u201cFees\u201d tab to find out more. Advanced reservations or registrations will be required at most of the 20 operating provincial parks that are offering backcountry camping.<\/p>\n<aside>\n<aside>There were no new forest fires confirmed in the Northeast Forest Fire region on the afternoon of May 31. Wawa 2 continues to be observed at .3 of a hectare. It is located on the south shore of Dodds Lake at the north end of Lake Superior Provincial Park.The fire hazard is generally low across the Northeast Region. Some of the western parts of the Cochrane sector are showing a moderate hazard.<\/p>\n<p>In the Northwest Region, there were no new fires discovered in the Northwest Region, there are however, two active fires in the region\u00a0 (both of which are under control).<\/p>\n<p>The fire hazard is mainly high in the Northwest region with a pocket of extreme hazard in the Red Lake sector.
