{"id":29421,"date":"2020-03-16T15:15:04","date_gmt":"2020-03-16T19:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=29421"},"modified":"2020-08-17T10:27:42","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T14:27:42","slug":"municipality-of-wawa-cqvid-19-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/16\/municipality-of-wawa-cqvid-19-response\/","title":{"rendered":"Municipality of Wawa COVID-19 Response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MunicipalCrest.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2508\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/MunicipalCrest-300x198.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>Council of the Municipality of Wawa held a Special Council Meeting at\u00a012: 15 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020, to discuss the Municipality&#8217;s response to\u00a0the COVID-19 Pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Following the advice and information received from district health professionals,\u00a0regional, provincial and federal agencies, such Algoma Public Health and the\u00a0Governments of Ontario and Canada, the Municipality will exercise an abundance of\u00a0caution in an effort to keep our residents safe and healthy during the COVID-19\u00a0Pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Effective immediately, the Municipality will take the following actions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The Wawa Community Centre will be closed effective 4:00 p.m. today, Monday,\u00a0March 16th and all activities and events cancelled at least until April 19, 2020.\u00a0This will result in the cancellation of all arena and fitness activities. All events\u00a0and bookings will be cancelled for the remainder of the season.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Wawa Public Library Board has made the decision to close the Library until\u00a0further notice. All borrowing late fees will be waived during this period.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>All Boards, Committees and public meetings of the Municipality will be\u00a0suspended until April 20, 2020 beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020. The\u00a0regularly scheduled Council Meeting will take place tomorrow on Tuesday,\u00a0March 17,2020, at 6:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wawa Transit will continue to operate wit h increased steps taken to clean and\u00a0sanitize the bus. All users are reminded to refrain from using the transit if they\u00a0are sick and to wash their hands prior to using the bus.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Municipal Council Meetings will be altered for the month of April and the Regular\u00a0meeting scheduled for April 7, 2020, has been cancelled.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>All municipal out-of-town travel for meetings, training and non-essential\u00a0purposes has been suspended until further notice.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Municipal offices at 40 Broadway will remain open and Council is asking the\u00a0public to only enter the building if absolutely necessary to protect the health\u00a0and safety of our front-line workers. Please call 705-856-2244 and press &#8220;0&#8221; for\u00a0assistance or inquiries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Municipal Council will continue to monitor the situation very closely and carefully\u00a0during the next few weeks. Council is taking all precautions in the best interests of\u00a0our staff, the community and in particular our seniors and vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The steps Council takes today are precautionary and may lead to disruptions in\u00a0some municipal services; however, we will continue to provide critical and essential\u00a0services to the best of our ability while protecting our employees and our\u00a0community residents.
