Beware of branches or\u00a0electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice. Public\u00a0Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get\u00a0an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid\u00a0kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.getprepared.gc.ca\/\">http:\/\/www.getprepared.gc.ca\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freezing rain warning in effect for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Marathon &#8211; Schreiber<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nipigon &#8211; Rossport<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Significant ice build-up due to a long-lasting period of freezing rain is expected or occurring.<\/p>\n<p>Significant ice storm continues through Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Freezing precipitation has become quite patchy and intermittent this evening as expected, bringing a few hour break from this ice storm. However, another surge of moisture from the next low pressure system approaching from the Southern Plains States will arrive early Thursday morning. Freezing rain and ice pellets will once again become more extensive by Thursday morning, then continue through the day before a changeover to a few cm of snow on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Total ice accumulations of 20 to 30 mm are expected by late Thursday. Northerly winds gusting to 50 km\/h will continue tonight but ease somewhat on Thursday. Ice-laden trees and limbs on power lines may result in possible widespread and extended power outages across the region.<\/p>\n<p>Travel is not recommended. Although the freezing rain has stopped in Wawa about two hours ago, everything remains glazed with ice. The same conditions exist in Dubreuilville, but they have been hit harder with ice pellets to the depth of 3.25 cms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The radar shows that rain is still heading our way. The temperature in Wawa at this time is 0.9C, so the ice-coated surfaces are not melting, and remain very slippery. If you are walking, be careful.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wawa-news could find no mention of Highway 519 being closed. Barricades are up at the intersection of Hwy 17\/Hwy 101 at the Goose.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It has been a mix of freezing rain, sleet and ice pellets in Wawa since at least 6 this morning. Everything in Wawa is glazed with ice and Dubreuilville has streets of icy snow.
