{"id":25481,"date":"2019-11-07T08:02:24","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T13:02:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=25481"},"modified":"2019-11-07T04:30:34","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T09:30:34","slug":"fords-mini-budget-fails-northern-ontario","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2019\/11\/07\/fords-mini-budget-fails-northern-ontario\/","title":{"rendered":"Ford\u2019s Mini-Budget Fails Northern Ontario"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ford government introduced its mini-budget today and it fails northern Ontario charged Steven Del Duca, Ontario Liberal Leadership Candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Del Duca delivered his response to the Fall Economic Statement from Sudbury where he met with local Liberals and supporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFord is a bull in a china shop, his ministers are so distracted by his tweets, his outbursts and scattershot policy that they aren\u2019t focused on the things that matter \u2013 and that\u2019s meant northern Ontario has been ignored,\u201d said Del Duca.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have tremendous potential in the North and what we need is action. That\u2019s why I\u2019m calling on the government to introduce a <strong>Northern Ontario Action Plan<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first part of Del Duca\u2019s <strong>Northern Ontario Action Plan<\/strong> includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High speed internet access for northern &amp; rural Ontario<\/li>\n<li>More investment for roads and bridges<\/li>\n<li>Better access to medical doctors in the north<\/li>\n<li>Building capacity for autism services in the north<\/li>\n<li>A full review of provincial agencies, boards, commissions and departments to see if any of their operations can be relocated to northern communities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Del Duca continues to meet with Northern Ontarians to discuss proposals for the North.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoug Ford has been busy settling old scores: meddling in Toronto city council elections, picking fights with unions and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. What we actually need is a new relationship between Queen\u2019s Park and northern Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we\u2019re going to open a new office we should look to the north. The cost of housing is low, and quality of life is high. We should decentralize government when it makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat northern Ontario needs is a plan and a vision to make life better, to make it easier to start and expand businesses, and to make retiring in the north easier with more access to care. That\u2019s what I\u2019m focused on and those would be my priorities for the north as premier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNorthern Ontario has a critical role to play in Ontario\u2019s future. We need to make it possible for young people to work, live and retire in northern communities. Northern Ontario is facing a shortage of skilled labour, doctors and nurses. The government has to act,\u201d finished Del Duca.<\/p>\n<p>The Ontario Liberal Party will hold a Northern debate in Sudbury on January 12, 2019.
