{"id":24485,"date":"2019-09-26T08:16:17","date_gmt":"2019-09-26T12:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=24485"},"modified":"2019-09-26T08:16:17","modified_gmt":"2019-09-26T12:16:17","slug":"siu-investigating-collision-in-matheson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2019\/09\/26\/siu-investigating-collision-in-matheson\/","title":{"rendered":"SIU Investigating Collision in Matheson"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The province\u2019s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a collision yesterday in Matheson that resulted in injuries to a 28-year-old man.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The preliminary information indicates the following:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>At approximately 11:20 a.m. on September 24, 2019, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 11 near Matheson.<\/li>\n<li>An OPP officer traveling northbound on the highway spotted the vehicle traveling southbound and the officer made a U-turn to follow the vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>A short time later in the area of Highway 11 and 101 West, the vehicle became involved in a head-on collision with a truck.<\/li>\n<li>The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The truck driver did not sustain any serious injury.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The SIU is urging anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The SIU is an arm\u2019s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence \u00a0in connection with the incident under investigation<\/li>\n<li>depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid<\/li>\n<li>report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>L\u2019Unit\u00e9 des enqu\u00eates sp\u00e9ciales de la province enqu\u00eate sur les circonstances entourant une collision survenue hier, \u00e0 Matheson, dans laquelle un homme de 28 ans ans a \u00e9t\u00e9 bless\u00e9.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Les renseignements pr\u00e9liminaires sugg\u00e8rent ce qui suit :<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Le 24 septembre 2019, vers 11 h 20 du matin, la Police provinciale de l\u2019Ontario a re\u00e7u une plainte au sujet d\u2019un v\u00e9hicule qui roulait de mani\u00e8re erratique sur la route 11, pr\u00e8s de Matheson.<\/li>\n<li>Un agent de la Police provinciale qui se dirigeait vers le nord sur la m\u00eame route a rep\u00e9r\u00e9 le v\u00e9hicule se dirigeant vers le sud; l\u2019agent a fait demi-tour pour le suivre.<\/li>\n<li>Peu apr\u00e8s, dans le secteur de la route 11 et de la route 101 Ouest, le v\u00e9hicule a heurt\u00e9 un camion de front.<\/li>\n<li>Le conducteur du v\u00e9hicule a \u00e9t\u00e9 conduit \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital pour des blessures graves. Le conducteur du camion n\u2019a subi aucune blessure grave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Deux enqu\u00eateurs et deux enqu\u00eateurs sp\u00e9cialistes des sciences judiciaires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9s d\u2019enqu\u00eater sur cet incident.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>L\u2019UES exhorte toute personne qui pourrait avoir des renseignements concernant cet incident \u00e0 communiquer avec l\u2019enqu\u00eateur principal au 1 800 787-8529. L\u2019Unit\u00e9 demande \u00e9galement \u00e0 quiconque en possession d\u2019une vid\u00e9o en rapport avec cet incident de bien vouloir la t\u00e9l\u00e9charger via le site Web de l\u2019UES.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>L\u2019UES est un organisme ind\u00e9pendant qui enqu\u00eate sur des rapports d\u2019incidents impliquant des policiers et qui ont caus\u00e9 la mort ou une blessure grave, ou qui comportent des all\u00e9gations d\u2019agression sexuelle.
