{"id":2347,"date":"2017-04-12T11:06:08","date_gmt":"2017-04-12T15:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=2347"},"modified":"2017-09-12T22:26:16","modified_gmt":"2017-09-13T02:26:16","slug":"marathon-opp-requirements-for-atvorv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2017\/04\/12\/marathon-opp-requirements-for-atvorv\/","title":{"rendered":"Marathon OPP &#8211; Requirements for ATV\/ORV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apr 12, 2017 @ 11:06<\/p>\n<p>Due to the increased number of All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) and Off Road Vehicles\/Side by Sides (ORV) at this time of year, Members of the Marathon\/Manitouwadge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding ATV\/ORV operators of the requirements to operate these in Ontario. The OPP are also asking the public to partner with them to reduce the rising number of ATV\/ORV incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol use continues to be a factor in fatal ATV\/ORV incidents in OPP jurisdictions. Operators are reminded that operating and ATV\/ORV on or off a roadway while impaired carries the same penalties as operating a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Ensure that you are aware of the\u00a0<strong>requirements to operate an ATV\/ORV:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For off-road driving,\u00a0<strong><u>the owner<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong>of the ATV\/ORV must ensure the driver is at least 12 years of age, unless they are on land occupied by the ATV\/ORV owner or under the close supervision of an adult<\/li>\n<li>To drive on or even cross a roadway the operator\u00a0<strong><u>must be 16 years of age<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0and hold a minimum class G2\/M2 driver&#8217;s licence<\/li>\n<li>Must wear an approved motorcycle helmet that is securely fastened under the chin with a chin strap at all times<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Must have<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0valid insurance and registration if not on private property<\/li>\n<li>Must operate in the same direction of traffic on the shoulder if on a public roadway<\/li>\n<li>On a roadway if speed limits 50 km\/h- you cannot exceed 20 km, if speed limits exceed 50 km\/h- you cannot exceed 50 km\/hr<\/li>\n<li>Vehicles commonly known as side by sides, are now permitted on the shoulder of public roads<\/li>\n<li>A golf cart is not an approved vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act or the Off Road Vehicles Act.
