{"id":23182,"date":"2019-08-04T08:01:39","date_gmt":"2019-08-04T12:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=23182"},"modified":"2026-01-03T12:41:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T17:41:39","slug":"northeast-forest-fire-update-august-3-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2019\/08\/04\/northeast-forest-fire-update-august-3-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Northeast Forest Fire Update &#8211; August 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There was one new wildland fire discovered by late afternoon August 3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bancroft 8 is being held at 0.1 of a hectare, it is located approximately 3 kilometres west of Red Pine Lake.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the time of this update, there are three other active wildland fires in the region.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cochrane 10 measures 74 hectares and is being observed, approximately 100 km southeast of Moose Factory.<\/li>\n<li>Peterborough 1 is under control at 10 hectares and is located west of route 15.<\/li>\n<li>Peterborough 2 is under control at 0.2 of a hectare. It is located east of route 509, approximately 5 km northwest of Silver Lake.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The forest fire hazard ranges mostly from moderate to high across the central and southern portion of the Northeast Region, with an isolated area northeast of Ranger Lake showing an extreme hazard and most of the northern part of the region showing a low to moderate hazard.<\/p>\n<p>For up to date forest fire hazard conditions in your area, see the interactive fire map at <a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/7EB28C35-2ED8-44A4-B400-A2F4396D8D92\/Ontario.ca\/forestfires\">Ontario.ca\/forestfires<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Help prevent forest fires<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adopt safe campfire practices!\u00a0Choose the site of your campfire carefully and keep your fire small.\u00a0Stay nearby: never leave it unattended.\u00a0Put your fire out by drowning it with water.\u00a0Be sure that it is extinguished prior to leaving the site.\u00a0Stir the ashes with a stick to uncover hot coals and then drown it again.\u00a0You can never be too safe.<\/p>\n<p>Consider alternatives to burning brush or yard waste, such as chipping or composting when possible, or saving burn piles for the fall or after the fire season. Use of outdoor fires must follow the outdoor burning rules set out in the Forest Fire Prevention Act of Ontario. Fires are to be started no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. Fires should never be left unattended and tools and water should be close at hand to put the fire out.
