There is hope: Oshawa\u2019s General Motors (GM) jobs can be saved, but not if Doug Ford keeps refusing to fight for them.\u00a0Michigan saw movement in the battle to save their\u00a0Hamtramck GM\u00a0plant\u00a0Friday with the delay of its closure date.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe\u00a0Michigan\u00a0government\u00a0fought for their GM jobs and\u00a0got results. But\u00a0the Doug Ford government\u00a0refuses to commit to\u00a0saving\u00a0Oshawa\u2019s GM jobs,\u201d said Oshawa\u2019s NDP MPP Jennifer French.<\/p>\n

GM announced late last year it plans to rip about 2,600 jobs out of Oshawa, along with facilities like the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. Andrea Horwath and the NDP immediately joined workers and supporters to start a massive fightback to save the\u00a0jobs in Oshawa, along with thousands of others in Ontario throughout the supply chain, but Ford threw in the towel\u00a0without even trying to save the jobs.<\/p>\n

While Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer vowed to fight side-by-side with Michigan GM workers to protect jobs, Ford turned his back on Oshawa GM workers and their families.\u00a0\u201cThe ship has already left the dock,\u201d said Ford, who also told Ontario: \u201cThey\u2019re gone. They\u2019re done.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith comments like that, Ford is not only refusing to fight for auto workers and good Ontario jobs, he\u2019s actually undermining the fight,\u201d said French.<\/p>\n
