{"id":1930,"date":"2017-03-29T07:38:39","date_gmt":"2017-03-29T11:38:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=1930"},"modified":"2017-03-29T05:40:15","modified_gmt":"2017-03-29T09:40:15","slug":"liberals-block-30-cut-to-hydro-bills-support-privatized-hydro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2017\/03\/29\/liberals-block-30-cut-to-hydro-bills-support-privatized-hydro\/","title":{"rendered":"Liberals block 30% cut to hydro bills, support privatized hydro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mar 29, 2017 @ 07:38<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kathleen Wynne\u2019s Liberals voted Tuesday against cutting hydro bills for Ontarians by 30 per cent, and in favour of the privatization of Hydro One.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryday families, businesses, municipalities and hospitals are hurting from the Wynne government\u2019s sky-high hydro bills,\u201d said Horwath. \u201cBut, once again, the Wynne Liberals are focused on Premier Wynne and the Liberal party \u2013 not what Ontario people need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The vote was on a motion,\u00a0<em>Addressing the Root Causes of High Hydro Costs,<\/em>\u00a0that would have reduced hydro bills for businesses and families by up to 30 percent. The plan includes eliminating mandatory time-of-use pricing, ending unfair rural delivery charges, and fixing problems in the system like oversupply and exporting power to other jurisdictions at a loss. The motion would have adopted the NDP\u2019s hydro plan \u2013 one it released weeks ago \u2013 and includes reversing the privatization of Hydro One. That move would pay for itself, and bring in an additional $7 billion in revenue to reinvest in Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cost of electricity has gone up over 300 percent under the Liberal government, including 50 percent just since Premier Wynne took office,\u201d said Horwath. &#8220;Instead of taking a serious look at the NDP\u2019s comprehensive and achievable plan, Wynne is musing about borrowing and sticking the next generation with as much as $40 billion in interest to buy some pre-election political relief for herself and her party. We\u2019re all going to pay for that, one way or another.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And she\u2019s still planning to continue the disastrous sell-off of Hydro One. She\u2019s still planning to charge time-of-use premiums that punish parents for cooking dinner at dinner time and seniors for staying home during the day.
