{"id":17756,"date":"2018-12-30T05:40:39","date_gmt":"2018-12-30T10:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=17756"},"modified":"2018-12-30T05:40:39","modified_gmt":"2018-12-30T10:40:39","slug":"distracted-driving-penalties-to-increase-january-1st-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2018\/12\/30\/distracted-driving-penalties-to-increase-january-1st-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Distracted Driving Penalties to Increase January 1st, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of January 1st, 2019, the existing fines and penalties for distracted driving will\u00a0<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">increase.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n<p>Drivers with an A, B, C, D, E, F and\/or G licence will face (for a first conviction):<br \/>\n&#8211; a fine of up to $1,000<br \/>\n&#8211; three demerit points<br \/>\n&#8211; a three-day day driver\u2019s licence suspension<\/p>\n<p>For a second conviction within 5 years:<br \/>\n&#8211; a fine of up to $2,000<br \/>\n&#8211; six demerit points<br \/>\n&#8211; a seven-day driver\u2019s licence suspension<\/p>\n<p>For a third and all subsequent convictions within 5 years:<br \/>\n&#8211; a fine of up to $3,000<br \/>\n&#8211; six demerit points<br \/>\n&#8211; a 30-day driver\u2019s licence suspension<\/p>\n<p>Drivers with a G1, G2, M1 or M2 licence convicted of distracted driving will face the same escalating fines as drivers with A to G licences but won\u2019t receive any demerit points.\u00a0Instead of demerit points, they will face:<br \/>\n&#8211; a 30-day licence suspension for a first conviction<br \/>\n&#8211; a 90-day licence suspension for a second conviction<br \/>\n&#8211; cancellation of their licence and removal from the Graduated Licensing System (GLS) for a third conviction<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As of January 1st, 2019, the existing fines and penalties for distracted driving will\u00a0increase.
