On Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at approximately 10:00 am officers from the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the Highway 11 and Gas Road intersection in Lake Helen First Nation.<\/p>\n
The driver of a blue Dodge pickup truck collided into the rear of a grey Ford Fusion as it was turning from Highway 11 onto Gas Road. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.<\/p>\n
While investigating, officers detected an odour of alcohol on the breath of the driver of the Dodge pickup truck. Officers had the driver provide a road side breath sample into the approved screening device (ASD) and registered fail. He was then transported to the Nipigon OPP detachment, where he underwent further testing.<\/p>\n
As a result of the investigation a 29 year old Dakota LANDS of Atikokan was charged with Drive Over 80 Milligrams contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of February 19, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon.<\/p>\n
Motorists who drive impaired by alcohol or drugs are subject to drivers licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundments, criminal records and increased insurance costs. Please drive responsibly and don’t drink and drive. <\/p>\n
