{"id":14989,"date":"2018-08-02T10:58:49","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T14:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=14989"},"modified":"2018-08-23T08:00:29","modified_gmt":"2018-08-23T12:00:29","slug":"algoma-commissions-55mw-combined-heat-and-power-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/02\/algoma-commissions-55mw-combined-heat-and-power-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Algoma Commissions 55MW Combined Heat and Power Plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-10 col-sm-offset-1\">\n<p>Algoma announced today that just four months after its \u00a0acquisition of its neighbouring combined heat and power plant (formerly Lake Superior Power Plant), the idled facility is back online supplying power to Algoma&#8217;s power grid.\u00a0 <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 1<\/span><sup>st<\/sup>, 2018 marked its first day of production, generating 32 MW of power just in time to meet summer&#8217;s peak power requirements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-10 col-sm-offset-1\">\n<p>Algoma CEO <span class=\"xn-person\">Kalyan Ghosh<\/span> commented on the development, &#8220;The redundancy this facility will provide as several of our existing assets approach end of life is of critical importance.\u00a0Not only does it give Algoma the capability to satisfy its peak power requirements, but it significantly enhances our reliability as we look to ramp up plate production to meet domestic demand.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The combined heat and power plant has capacity to increase output to 110MW with the addition of a second gas turbine. Initially, the facility will operate intermittently, supplementing Algoma&#8217;s current supply of power and steam for the steelworks operation. 127<\/p>\n<p>Algoma is based in <span class=\"xn-location\">Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario<\/span>.
