{"id":14873,"date":"2018-08-22T17:19:40","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T21:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=14873"},"modified":"2019-09-13T15:01:53","modified_gmt":"2019-09-13T19:01:53","slug":"highway-17-closed-line-lake-due-to-serious-collision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/22\/highway-17-closed-line-lake-due-to-serious-collision\/","title":{"rendered":"Highway 17 CLOSED (Line Lake) due to serious collision (17:19 UPDATE)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Aug 22, 2018 @ 17:19<\/b><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday August 19, 2018 at approximately 10:19 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Superior East (Wawa) Detachment, responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 15 kilometres south of Wawa in Lendrum Township, Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary investigation has revealed that a southbound vehicle struck a moose then crossed into the northbound lane colliding with a northbound vehicle.\u00a0The northbound vehicle carried five familial occupants, all of which were transported to hospital with serious injuries.\u00a0Two of the five occupants have since passed away.\u00a0Two occupants in the southbound vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other two occupants were also transported to hospital with serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased occupants of the southbound vehicle have been identified as Fatos METKO (45) and Fioralb METKO (14) both of Calgary, Alberta. The deceased occupants of the northbound vehicle have been identified as Cynthia CARAOA (51) and Anika CARAOA (9) both of Winnipeg, Manitoba.<\/p>\n<p>This investigation remains ongoing under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Hagerman of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) of the OPP.\u00a0Assisting with the investigation are members of the OPP&#8217;s Superior East and Sault Ste. Marie Detachment Crime Units along with the OPP&#8217;s Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) Team. Wawa Fire was required to extinguish a fire.<\/p>\n<p>Wawa-news could see two vehicles involved in the collision on the east side of the highway and a dead moose on the other shoulder. One ambulance was observed leaving for Sault Ste.
