Ontario has passed legislation to end the strike at York University and save the university’s fall semester for tens of thousands of students. York University will now start to resume normal operations and students will soon be able to complete their winter courses.<\/p>\n
“Getting York University students back to class was a top priority for our government,” said Minister of Labour Laurie Scott. “We have delivered on our promise to protect students and their families by passing legislation to end the longest postsecondary strike in Canadian history quickly and fairly. Promise made, promise kept.”<\/p>\n
“We heard loud and clear from the people of Ontario \u2014 particularly impacted students and their families \u2014 that action was needed to end the disruptive strike,” said Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Merrilee Fullerton. “I am glad to see thousands of students heading back to class.” <\/p>\n
The Back to Class Act (York University), 2018 ends the labour disputes between York University and two bargaining units (Unit #1 and Unit #3) represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3903 (CUPE 3903).
