On the first day of question period on Monday, Sol Mamakwa, NDP MPP for Kiiwetinoong, called on Premier Doug Ford to explain why he removed\u00a0reconciliation from the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs and relegated the ministry to a part-time minister.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did the Ford government drop reconciliation from the mandate of the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs\u00a0 and what is behind the decision to have the minister share his time between northern affairs, mining, energy, and, Indigenous Affairs?\u201d said Mamakwa.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Mamakwa said First Nations communities are concerned about the Ford government\u2019s step backward away from reconciliation.\u00a0 He referred to Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler who said, \u201cIt is difficult to see how progress can continue to be made when First Nations are reduced to only how they relate to the government\u2019s ability to access the resources within our lands.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
During the campaign, Ford famously said he would, \u201cget on a bulldozer himself\u201d to get the Ring of Fire underway, and he also said, he would, \u201cstop talking\u201d and, \u201cstart doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the First Nations perspective, the only way you \u2018start doing\u2019 anything in their territories is to, \u2018start talking\u2019 to their communities,\u201d said Mamakwa.<\/p>\n
