As of noon today, the highway is still closed.\u00a0\u00a0The detour route would add over two hours to the trip.\u00a0\u00a0This is the trans-Canada highway which sees a lot of personal and commercial traffic.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It is my understanding that culverts are &#8220;monitored&#8221;, and then replaced when they fail.\u00a0\u00a0I have heard this from more than one person who works in the industry.\u00a0\u00a0Culverts which are weakening are left in place until they collapse, or until a hole forms in the road above.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is unacceptable. First, this preventable failure inconvenienced hundreds, if not thousands, of Canadians.\u00a0\u00a0Businesses will have lost income.
