{"id":124,"date":"2017-02-13T08:29:17","date_gmt":"2017-02-13T13:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=124"},"modified":"2017-09-12T22:26:16","modified_gmt":"2017-09-13T02:26:16","slug":"thunder-bay-opp-investigate-fatal-pedestrian-collision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2017\/02\/13\/thunder-bay-opp-investigate-fatal-pedestrian-collision\/","title":{"rendered":"Thunder Bay OPP Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On Friday, February 10, 2017 at approximately 6:34 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as Thunder Bay Police Service, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a report of a vehicle \/ pedestrian collision at the intersection of Highway 11\/17 and Red River Road.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A tractor trailer (log truck) was proceeding north bound on Highway 11\/17 crossing the intersection at Red River Road, when the driver struck a pedestrian that proceeded into the intersection against a red traffic light.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The direction of travel was not east bound from Highway 102 onto Highway 11\/17 as previously reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Travis TAIT, 32 years of age, from North Caribou Lake First Nation was pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) and the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The intersection was closed for approximately five hours as police conducted their investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The investigation is continuing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">NOTE: This article was corrected by OPP to reflect the correct direction of travel.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"133\" \/><strong>About the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)<\/strong> - The Ontario Provincial Police is<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 6,200 uniformed officers, 3,100 civilian employees and 800 Auxiliary officers.
