The 5th Annual\u00a0Franco-Nord-Ouest Chess Tournament on April 19th saw 122 students participate in\u00a0\u00c9cole Saint-Joseph (Wawa) gymnasium. Even though the gym was packed with tables and students playing – all you could hear was the occasional click as pieces were moved. This tournament was hosted by Wawa\u2019s \u00c9cole Saint-Joseph, and had students from \u00c9cole St-Joseph (Dubreuilville), \u00c9cole Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste.\u00a0Marie), \u00c9cole Saint Nom de J\u00e9sus (Hornepayne), \u00c9cole Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur (Chapleau), \u00c9cole l\u2019Escalade (Wawa), \u00c9cole secondaire l\u2019Or\u00e9e des Bois (Dubreuilville) and \u00c9cole secondaire Cit\u00e9-Sup\u00e9rieure (Marathon) attend.<\/p>\n

Editor’s Note:<\/strong> Inadvertently\u00a0St. Joseph French Immersion Catholic School (Wawa) was left out of the list of attendees. Principal Michaela Sheehan explained that the students had a great time participating in the tournament.<\/p>\n

The Tournament featured\u00a0four categories: grades 3 and 4, grades 5 and 6, grades 7 and 8, and secondary school (grades 9 to 12). Prizes were awarded to winning teams and top students in each category.<\/p>\n

It is estimated that over 300 youth have learned in \u00c9cole Saint-Joseph’s chess program over the past five years. The Rotary Club of Wawa has been a support for this chess club and tournament since it’s very beginning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
