{"id":11311,"date":"2018-03-22T09:03:22","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T13:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=11311"},"modified":"2018-03-22T09:05:58","modified_gmt":"2018-03-22T13:05:58","slug":"opp-distracted-driving-campaign-sees-2589-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2018\/03\/22\/opp-distracted-driving-campaign-sees-2589-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP Distracted Driving Campaign sees 2,589 charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Mar 22, 2018 @ 09:03<\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div><div class=\"divider\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-e1501592123859.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/OPPCrest-300x236.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a>The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have finalized their Distracted Driving Campaign enforcement data, laying <strong>2,589<\/strong> charges against motorists who were not completely focused on driving.<\/p>\n<p>The majority <strong>(2,462)<\/strong> of the charges were laid against drivers caught using their hand-held devices (Highway Traffic Act Section 78.1).\u00a0Sixty four <strong>(64)<\/strong> of the charges were for Careless Driving (HTA Section 130) offences for driving while engaged in other forms of distraction.<\/p>\n<p>The OPP also carried out enforcement from transport trucks, giving them an ideal vantage point for spotting commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers using their hand-held devices.
