{"id":10014,"date":"2018-02-02T18:06:46","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T23:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/?p=10014"},"modified":"2018-02-02T18:10:41","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T23:10:41","slug":"new-law-ensures-safe-access-to-abortion-clinics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wawa-news.com\/index.php\/2018\/02\/02\/new-law-ensures-safe-access-to-abortion-clinics\/","title":{"rendered":"New Law Ensures Safe Access to Abortion Clinics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Feb 2, 2018 @ 18:06<\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div><div class=\"divider\"><\/div>\n<p>As of February 1st, 2018, all abortion clinics in Ontario will have safe access zones of 50\u00a0metres\u00a0to protect the safety, security, health\u00a0and\u00a0privacy of women and health care providers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/safe-access-zones#section-1\">Prohibited activities within safe access zones<\/a>\u00a0around clinics, facilities\u00a0and\u00a0offices include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advising a person to refrain from accessing abortion services<\/li>\n<li>Abortion-related protests<\/li>\n<li>Physically interfering with or intimidating people accessing or providing abortion services<\/li>\n<li>Recording patients or providers (e.g. taking photos or video).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other facilities that offer abortion services, such as hospitals, health\u00a0centres, or pharmacies, as well as the offices of regulated health professionals who provide abortion services can now\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/safe-access-zones\">request safe access zones<\/a>\u00a0of up to 150\u00a0metres.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, abortion service providers now have automatic safe access zones of 150\u00a0metres\u00a0around their homes. This includes a general anti-harassment provision that protects clinic staff and abortion providers anywhere in Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No one should ever be intimidated or have to fear for their safety while accessing abortion services. These changes will have a far-reaching impact on patients, providers\u00a0and\u00a0communities across the province, helping to ensure these spaces are safer and more secure for everyone.&#8221;\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Yasir Naqvi, Attorney General<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Women in our province should be able to access health care free from the threat or fear of violence or harassment. Safe access zones will protect a woman\u2019s fundamental right to fair and equal access to safe abortion.
